This Truck Has Some Oddities

Post by 68RGR »

I have nothing to do with the seller or the truck but check out the combination "air cleaner/oil filter" and the under dash air conditioner. The first is some kind of Frankenstein transplant and the second is a type that I haven't seen before unless parts of it were transplanted as well.

You know, I've seen that air cleaner before, not on a pickup, but something like an old Lincoln or Mercury. That canister that looks like an oil filter is some kind of vacuum canister or charcoal canister or something like that.

Heck, if it was on a Lincoln, the canister could be used to filter the oil in an oil bath air cleaner - Luxury man, luxury!

If my memory serves me right, that oil filter looking device is/was a noise suppressor. It came on Lincoln & Mercury cars.Under full acceleration those air cleaners had a weird vibration/sound that Lincoln & Mercury customers didn't like. :)

As already stated that air cleaner is from a 429/460 Lincoln or Mercury product. I have the same air cleaner on my truck (it has a Lincoln 460). The AC just looks like an aftermarket unit most likely designed for the truck. There were a handful of aftermarket builders. Something tells me that may be a Clardy unit.

If you're talking about the light mounted under the bumper, that's a back up light not a brake light. I know several folks who have installed those for better visibility when backing up at night (especially out in the woods somewhere). It beats the little clear inserts in the factory taillights.

Look at the back of the cab where the cargo light should be.

It also has a Ch.... Che.... CH>>>> steering column ; I personally would call that odd.
the seller also mentions Fordification.com in his description, so he may be a member here.

Im actually planning on doing that third brake light mod to my truck since I'm moving the tail lights to the inside of the bedrail tubes (flare side).
