Home Brewing anyone?
Wife bought me a "Mr Beer" home brewing kit for my B-Day. I proudly put it to use a while ago and am just sitting down to enjoy my first home brewed beer. Its a lil flat but otherwise not to bad. Anyone else brew their own?

heck yeah! too many projects right now. need to get my saturdays cleared up a little bit.
if your bottles are coming out flat you might have bottled at the wrong temperature, not enough sugar, or conditioned them at the wrong temperature.
be careful though, too much sugar and they will explode. i keep them in a big rubbermaid tote to condition.

I home brew, but haven't in awhile. When I did most if not all of the brewing was all-grain in 10 gal batches. At one time I owned a small chest freezer so I could lager/condition the beer at any temperature that I wanted for either Ale or Lager yeast. From there it was off to one of the 4 five gal sanke kegs (old soda kegs) so everything would be on-tap. Got tired of bottles and that work real quick.
Been dying to pick it back up, found myself a beverage-aire bar kegerator that'll hold three full size kegs for 200 bucks (that I could have spent on the truck
) only problem is it runs and doesn't get cold. Pretty sure if I could get that running and chilling the willingness to brew again would come back.

After going back through my recipe I noticed I used 1/2 the sugar I should have when I bottled. Im guessing that was my problem or part of it. I really like your idea of using the tote.motzingg wrote:heck yeah! too many projects right now. need to get my saturdays cleared up a little bit.

With the friends I have that kegerator set up would probably get them to come over more often. The extra work I put into the beer may pay off in the extra man power Id have at the garagehabu wrote:I home brew, but haven't in awhile. If you calculate the amount of sugar per bottle in liquid form you could open add sugar and rebottle, but you'd have to be spot on to prevent them from exploding. Tricky situation but doable.

My problem, not that it's much of a problem, is that I promised my wife one 'project' at a time. That one for me right now is finishing the engine, trans and drive train of my bump. After that I am free to pursue the kegerator and brewing again. Last time I brewed it was down to .40 per bottle to brew, economical if you ask me and I am sure non of my friends would complain
