Cell Phone Service (Happy or Sad)

Post by elgemcdlf »

I switched cell phone providers a couple months back & am very happy with what I am now getting. I have never promoted any cell phone company before & I think I have had them all. I would like to share the info with others but do not want to be considered spam. If it would be considered spam I will not post the info. If it is something that can be posted without violating anything here on the forum I will share with everyone.

I think talking about good or bad experiences/service is fine, something that reads like a solicitation or advertisement less so... probably goes here in general vs vendor feedback since it isn't really a FORDtruck vendor...

I PM'ed a link to Jamie to see what he thinks, since we are the only two that seem active...

I feel the same way.

I'll start it, I'm pretty happy with AT+T's pay as you go plan. $100 for 1000 minutes or one years use, 10 cents a minute vs. $45 / month saved me a huge amount of money last year. If I ever need another phone I'll pick one up off eBay that takes my SIM card. I have a simple yellow Milspec tough Samsung from a couple years ago and it performs flawlessly.

Then again, I'm not a smart phone zombie so your mileage may vary.

I've been on Virgin pay-as-you-go for about a year. Very happy with the service, when i don't pay it gets shut off until i pay, and no extra BS charges. Sometimes i'm short cash, othertimes i just don't care and let it go a couple days. $25 was an excellent price, but it is up to $30 now, still much cheaper than the 'major' carriers.

My wife is on the smartphone plan at $35 a month, she's not welded to the smartphone, so the bare-bones plan gives her plenty of data for GPS and the occasional web search.

After going through indentured servitude with Verizon, then Cingular, then AT&T, Virgin seems like a totally logical way to go about using and paying for a cell phone.

The last plan I had with ATT cost me over 50 a month for a basic flip phone and some texting... altogether absurd.

I've also had awesome luck with samsung flip phones, I've broken everything else in short order.

Ok I caught a commercial on television for unlimited talk, text & data for $19 a month. I decided to check them out. Found out no actual store front only web based. Starting to get scared. Did more homework & they seemed on the up & up so I went ahead and took the plunge. I have a Motorola Defy XT (you have to buy their phone) with as they say $19 a month service. The way it works is the phone is a hybrid. It runs off Wi-Fi for everything when Wi-Fi is available. When not it flips over to Sprint 3G cell network. I have been so happy with it compared to everything else I have had I find myself telling others about it.

You have the ability to turn off the Wi-Fi giving you a Sprint 3G unlimited service (currently advertised for $65 a month from Sprint). It is through Republic Wireless. The phone runs the Android OS. Right now the phone I have is $99. So for you guys out there paying $65 a month you will be even in just 2 months time. They also offer 30 day trial time (major carriers only give 14 days). They also have an affiliate program & a referral program. I have a link that if used will get you (and me) a $19 credit towards service. Since I am not wanting this to be anything like spam if you go to the website & it looks like something you might be interested in message me & I will send the link for the credit. You have to use the link when ordering to receive the credit.

No contract! This is my first smart phone. I love the woman that lives inside and gives me directions as I am driving. She even reroutes when I miss a turn!

With Verizon for several years. Happy with service and yes I most likely can get it cheaper, but as I said I am happy with it. Have a smart phone with 2G, unlimited txt, and minutes. I have Mom on the plan and don't want to change it up on here, I am 64 so Mom is ????

Haha! You guys are truly blessed. I've been with ATT for 16 years. Only company with service here on the mountain. 5 lines (me, wife, and 3 adult children with bad credit), unlimited text, 2100 shared minutes, 3G data packages on 4 lines, roadside assistance on everybody but me ('cause they're women and can't change a tire and the only male is forever locking his keys in his car). Insurance on 3 of the lines (the women of course 'cause they don't take care of their phones). 2 iPhones, 2 androids and a flip phone. Total bill = $310/mo! The kids pay me a total of $120/mo (and yes, they pay) but the other $190 is all on me. Count your blessings. If it was just me by myself, I'd have a plan like elgemcdlf. But since THEY"VE got to have bells and whistles, by golly, I'm going to too. :x Happy with the service just hate the bill. Never had a problem and since I'm a "valued customer" I get great customer service. I'd better for the money I give them.

The last service I had was with Revol which for the most part I was happy with. Had great service. I was paying just shy of $45 a line for unlimited talk & text. I was happy with the service from Verizon until I ran into problems with phones. They finally told me they wouldn't warranty any more of them. It was software failure. The bill was high but not really for the time when I had Verizon. It was their refusal to warranty their phone when they advertised a 1 year warranty that got me moving around. Once I got off the contract style plan I have never gone back.

My wife and I are on the Wally World plan. Straight Talk. She has one of the higher priced phones and is fixing to upgrade to another one now. I have the old type that just slides up. A slider, I think they call it. Go figure. :?
Actually mine is her first hand-me-down. 3 of the buttons are totally unreadable. But it still does what I need it to. I only use it at work and rarely to talk to my daughter that won't keep daddy informed or answer my calls.
We both use the cheapest plan. The $30 one. 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 30 mb's of internet. Whatever an mb is. :?
I never use even half of mine.
As for service, we are happy with it. We can usually get out where some of the others can't around here. And it's the only one that will get out at my daughters house. Hmmm, that can't be her excuse. :hmm:
So I reckon the only complaint I have with my service is they can't make my daughter call me more often.

I don't have a smart phone. Mine's pretty stupid. But it takes pictures (wish it had a flash) and makes phone calls. I have Tracfone pay as you go. I have lots of minutes on my phone, service through mid January. I usually run out of service days before I run out of minutes because I just don't use my phone that much. So it works for me!

I use Verizen. Don't know what plan it is, but I buy refill cards when the balance gets low. Cost $2 per day when used, no cost when not used in a day. $30 refill cards last from a month to two months, depending on how much I use it. Very well satisfied as I can control how much it costs and can't spiral out of control as some do.
