2014 F-150

Post by Mancar1 »

Hey I am thinking on making the move to a new F-150. Any (Owner) input out there on the V-6 Ecoboost? Power, MPG, reliability, ect. I had a 06 F-150 with the 5.4. really liked it but the engine was kinda loud when u gave it the pedal.

Don't know about the ecoboost but my dad has the 5.0 and he and I both love it. gets about 18mpg 75%city/25%highway combined. I hear towing with the ecoboost sucks mileage wise. I was reading that some get sub 10mpg. when your not towing the mileage is a little better, but im not sure if the increased mileage will offset the increase price tag. the eco boost does have a lot of power. if I was buying one id just get the 5.0. I know it works, parts are lot cheaper, and it will supported by the aftermarket for many years. I don't want to sound like im trashing the ecoboost. hopefully someone with one will show up and give you their experience. have you test drove either one? You might also wait a little bit and see what ford does with the new 2015 model if you can.

My one co-worker bought a used 2012 with the V6 EcoBoost and he is impressed. Ive only ridden in it when we go out to lunch but it has gobs of power at least unloaded. You know when the turbo kicks in. The most impressive thing is between the turbo and the transmission combo he can climb a substantial varying grade hill in cruise control in a high gear and it doesnt kickdown shift and hunt. Every lunch outing he finds something new he discovers. If I had the money Id buy one but with my 50mi round trip commute 5 days a week I cant afford his $80 gas bill every week and thats an estimate because he drives a little less distance than I do.

We have a 2012 fx4 with the Eco boost. We both love it and it pulls our 27 foot trailer really well. Fuel mpg we haven't done it but it seams to get better fuel mileage than our 2008. The only complaint we both have with it is the headlights, they suck but I am not sure about the hid ones but I don't think they could be any worse.

I don't think you are going to see a lot of info on reliability on the new ecoboost v6, its just too new of a motor. However, I have only heard good things about them. My only worry would be having one break down outside of the warranty period, I would imagine it would get a bit expensive. But what modern drivetrain isn't these days.

As far as the reliability of the EcoBoost, the 5.0 is as new a motor as the 3.5 EcoBoost. Old block, but still a new engine. As a parts manager in a Ford dealership, I've seen no more issues with either engine. Maintenance only. I don't think I could say that parts are more expensive for one than the other. Of course the 3.5 has a turbo, but I have yet to replace a turbo.
According to our customers, the mileage is similar between the two engines, as far as being driven daily. I think whatever you tow with is going to have terrible mileage when you are towing. The main difference here is the 365 horsepower the EcoBoost has. That power comes in darn handy if you need it. Other differences to consider? The 5.0 takes 8 quarts of 5w20 compared to 6 quarts of 5w30 in the EcoBoost. That difference will impact your maintenance cost overall. Just my :2cents: . Everyone have a great afternoon!

I've had several F150's with the 5.4 Triton motor... they were all great motors to say the least.

I NEVER thought i would buy a V6. Then i drove the ecoboost... and :woohoo: :hd: :D
I have 42,000 miles (mostly freeway) and so far nothing but fun. my mileage has not been that good because i stomp on it all the time... it hauls ass  and power to spare anywhere on the RPM range

I have grown to love the spooling sound of the turbo in lieu of the throaty V8
