The easiest way is to have the title put into her name & then go through the entire process again to put it in your name. Not knowing where you are but if BMV where you are is anything like IN of OH you will have far less problems just doing it this way.

What would happen here is they would refuse to alter it. Then when you said you wanted to just do it in her name they would again refuse because you already said it was for you. They would say you have to go back to the original name on the title & have them get a replacement title.

In Oregon, she would just write a bill of sale to you and you would go to DMV and put it in your name. Her name is clearly written on the title, which gives her financial interest in the car. if she decides to sell it to you, I believe she has the right.

Go to the NC DMV and ask them how you would do it the cheapest way. They know the licensing laws pretty well and love these kind of special situations. Its kinda like a puzzle for them.
Probably a situation where your daughter would fill out a form to "gift'' it to you and it might cost an extra ten or twenty dollars.

I know in Alberta all i would do is get your daughter to write a bill of sale to you ( "she sold the car to you") then if they questioned it just tell them she bougght it and then you liked it s much you bought it off her.
