Just about ready to put my engine back in

Post by 71-F-250SC-72-F-250C »

I was just going to put a 4bbl intake on it...then I caught the disease and got a bit carried away. After I bought the intake I found the headers. I needed to take the heads off to get some work done, because it was split where the exhaust manifold bolts up. I figured since I had it this far, I would pull the engine and paint it. Then I thought that since I had the engine out I could repaint the inner fenders, and the front of the frame. While I had the engine out, I decided to rebuild it, then paint it. It was already bored .060, and the pistons were in good shape, so I just had it honed. I have all new bearings and rings, and a crane truck avenger cam. I am hoping to get more power than it had, but I am not expecting it to be fast. Anyways, here are some pics. The heads are still in the machine shop. We decided to use the heads off my dads 360 instead of mine and didnt think they would need to go to the machine until we looked a bit closer last night-long story. I will add more of the whole engine compartment as I get closer to the finish line.

Heres another pic of the engine. Also I was wondering if the link I have in my signature works. When you click on it a side veiw of my truck should pop up. Then you should be able to look through my gallery and see more pics.

It's looking good from what I can see with the attached pictures. However, the link in your sig just brings up the sign-in page. :hmm:

Sweet! I'd be interested to see how your engine bay and front frame looks after you finish sprucing it up.

I found out earlier today that my pics were not showing up, so I messed around with trying to figure out the photo gallery over here. I got one pic in because it was my old avatar. I cannot figure out how to reduce the pixels enough to get pics in. I am hoping to have my truck in the exhaust shop this week. I am going to try to figure out how to run dual exhaust with the 2nd tank. If I can't its going to have to go.

That's why I am just planning on a complete rebuild of the entire truck. I do exactly the same thing when i start a project. That's why I am not allowed to work on the house when I get home in Feb. I end up tearing it apart and then hurry to put it back together before I leave. That is looking good. I like how it started very innocently, then went deeper and deeper until you had rebuilt the engine. Great story. That will make a nice write-up with photos for the F-series Garage. I can hardly wait to get my truck done. :D

I got some more work done yesterday. The engine is in, and all that is left to install is the distributer, spark plugs, antifreeze, power steering pump, belts and fan. I also have to put on two torque converter nuts. Then I will try to start it. If we have no problems, then all that will have to be done is taking it to the exhaust shop. I'll take more pics today, I didnt get a chance last night.

We are trying to restore the 71 all at once, like Keith is doing and you plan to do trukcrazy. We started about the same time as Keith, and we are way behind. We still plan to get it done we just dont know when. I am glad we are atleast getting something done on my truck.- the 72. Also it is hard not to use parts off the 71 for mine when we cannot find them around.

I got to drive my truck again today. Yesterday we could not get it running because I forgot I had it switched onto the aux tank, and the aux tank has no gas. I also found out that my aux tank is rusted inside so its about to be taken out. The best part about seeing my engine run is knowing I paid for it all myself. I am only 16, and I will have had this truck for a year on Jan 27th. My dad did most of the rebuilding though I just did the crappy work, like taking it apart and cleaning every single bolt and painting it. Anyways it runs now and all thats keeping me from driving it around town is exhaust. I am waiting on my next paycheck. :D
