FMX to C4 swap
I have a FMX behind a 92 model Crown Vic 5.0 motor changed to carb. I am wanting to put a C4 in the truck. Will the crossmember work or will I have to do some custom fab work? Will the driveshaft also fit? The truck is a 67 F100 shortbed. I am about to jump in and take a serious journey to make this truck a turbocharged monster!!!

The FMX is a stronger tranny than a C4. Why change it?

Re: re: FMX to C4 swap
The C4 is a racing trans with billet servos ,manual reverse valvebody with trans brake, and rollarized planetaries, with 300m Vasco input shafts and JW SFI approved bellhousing. Also I have a custom 8" stall converter setup for the turbp kit I have.Jake11 wrote:The FMX is a stronger tranny than a C4. Why change it?

The C4 is also quite a bit lighter, if what I've been told is true.

re: FMX to C4 swap
So the fmx is better then the c4. I heard by a hardcore mustang fan that the fmx was an experimental transmission that really sucked. And I have even heard a bunch of bad stuff about the c4's????? Someone school me please

re: FMX to C4 swap
Many Moons ago, When I was still in my Youth I owned a 75 F100 302 with an FMX. I decided that I wanted to build up a 351Cleveland 2V that I had sitting in a 72 Ranchero.
I did not realize at the time that I had an FMX so I had the C4 from the ranchero Built up Extra Heavy Duty. When I installed it in the Truck I had to fabricate a Tranny mount in order to adapt it to the crossmember. Next I had to Have a shorter driveshaft custom made. That cost me a chunk of money and alot of extra downtime plus labor (mine) when all I had to do was to buy a C6 core and have it built up. That would of saved me a lot of unwanted and needed drama.

Re: re: FMX to C4 swap
Thanks, for the info I will be doing the install this weekend I might have to fabricate a crossmember for the rear to accomodate for the single 3-1/2" exhaust off the downpipe. I will post up some pics this weekend. Thanks guys!mrung0wa wrote:Many Moons ago, When I was still in my Youth I owned a 75 F100 302 with an FMX.
