what is this light for ?

Post by thin41 »

One more general question and thank you ahead.

What is the light socket (no bulb yet) for on the far left lower corner on the surface of my dashboard for on my '69 F250 ?

About as far left and down as you can go near the driver's door - looks factory installed, but when I've looked at other dash pictures that bulb/ socket
is not there ? Left and down of headlight switch.

Thanks.

That's your brake warning light. I didn't know what it was for either, until it actually came on.

It means you have a problem with your brakes when it comes on.

Ditto, it means your proportioning valve has shifted enough for the switch to make. Mines been on since I put it back together. Bleeding the brakes didn't shift the pin back to center so some day I need to pull it out and manually reset it. Mine is down on the drivers frame rail, a real PITA to get to.

Mines on also. It came on after I redid my brakes.

Yes it is a brake alarm light. When I overhauled the brakes on my '68 F100 the light came on. A mechanic told me to press hard on the brake pedal and hold it for a few seconds, you should feel the brake pedal give a little pop and the light should go off. I did that and it worked. It worked for me but yours may be different.

I should also add and am assuming this has already been figured out that the truck must be at a full stop or parked before you press hard on the brake pedal. I would hate to hear that when the brake alarm light was re-set in this manner that your entire ammunition supply, groceries and beer cans went flying into the defroster vents and from under the seat. Keep the rubber side down!

I'm not at home with my 68 right now but was wondering the same thing. What # bulb does it take. I want to pick one up while I'm out and check it when I get home.

#1895. Just like the rest of the dash bulbs. Which I replaced with all LEDs. My whole cluster is nice and bright.
