Hi All,
I just purchased this in Tucson Arizona. I do not know what it is and would appreciate help. I am not sure if it is legit or if someone went to alot of trouble changing it over. Basically what I have looks to be a 1970 Mercury F100. The hood says Mercury, the tailgate says Mercury, the side emblems say Mercury 100 Twin I Beam and the dash says Mercury. But from what I have read, Mercury stopped making trucks in 1967. I am attaching photos. Please help.
Is this a 1970 Mercury Truck? Please help

What's the VIN number? At least with that you can tell if it is a Canadian truck or not.

Here's what I come up with,
F10YKJ31966
F10 = F100
Y = 360 CID
K = Kansas City
J31966 = June 1970
This truck was built in The U.S.A. in Kansas and to my knowledge no Mercury trucks were built in Kansas.
It's possible it spent part of it's life in Canada and got badged there by owner or the Owner badged it here. Knowing that Mercury badging is hard to come by, It's only a guess on my part that it was assembled by P.O.

I could be wrong, but I believe the hood badging on the Mercury trucks was spread out quite a bit more and not so centered. So it may very well be a re-badged truck as the VIN suggests. But if it is, it appears to have been re-badged quite a while ago as that truck show some age with its patina.
Did you verify that VIN you provided on the truck itself? I would check the VIN on the frame and see what is there. Maybe you have an actual Mercury truck that was titled under a different VIN? It happens with these trucks all the time, especially when trucks are repaired/created using multiple trucks. Someone will register it under the VIN of one truck while the truck itself might have the frame of another. You cannot always trust the door tag VIN on these trucks as doors are easily interchangeable.

If it's a '70 model, it's not a true Mercury truck. Mercury truck production began in 1946 and ended in 1968. Production was by Ford Motor Company of Canada.

This kind of thing is the reason I assembled this Mercury truck thread:
http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =2&t=35331

Those cowl nameplates are from a '65/'66 merc and the hood letters are too close together; looks like he used the ford spacing with the extra letters stuck in between. Doesn't look like he went to 'a lot of work'; basically just drilled about a dozen holes and bolted on a tailgate. There were no merc nameplates used inside after the mid-fifties.
Don't believe the mercpickup site where they say the last one was built in march '68. Kevin Marti has documented one built in may '68 and there's others that have surfaced recently as well.
