Retired Fords

Post by ToughOldFord »

Took these pics on a recent trip to Pull and Save, or whatever they call themselves this week. This yard is in Chico, about 80 miles from me. I was at our local yard too but I forgot my camera. The Chico trucks have been somewhat picked through, but our local yards have a couple of recent untouched ones that look like you could get them road worthy in an afternoon of work. One of them was a red F-250 4WD with a 4 speed and 360/390. So complete it looked like if you put tires and a battery in it you'd be able to drive off with it. What a waste of F Series metal.

I got my grill from a junk yard, it was a nice 67 with lots of GOOD parts left on it, really not in too bad a shape, just was in a hurry that day.
3 weeks later I went back with my tools and a list of what I wanted, went all over that damn place looking for it. I finally found someone to ask, he pointed to a pile of flattened cars, and sure enough there was the black 67 CRUSHED  .

Yeah, around here, they rotate the cars very quickly at the pic n pulls. I lost out one time with a very good looking dash. Never again if I can help it.

I don't mind though because there is always something new to find.

Hey TOF, you didn't happen to get the VINs with those pictures? If you get back that way and think about it, get the VINs and register those trucks in the Registry and any others you come across. Thanks, John.

There are quite a few boneyards around here with lots of 67 to 72 trucks. I recently saw a fairly straight 69 with a 390 with ALL the hardware less aircleaner.

Good pics!!

To bad we can't tell people to send they're trucks to a junkyard that doesn't smash em. Kinda like a 67-72 ford truck graveyard????

I'm way to sentimental over these things...

Wouldn't it be nice to have a location in each state that has all the old trucks just waiting for you to pick thru?

Ok ok I'll wake up now :D

True. Look in the background of a couple of those pics and you'll see crushed cars and The Evil Crusher.
I'd be nice though, if they'd concentrate on crushing the 80's and newer disposable cars, Escort, Cavalier, K-cars, rice burners, etc. and let the vintage detroit steel sit around a bit longer. Unfortunately there's more money in the old stuff since there's more steel. And California has that bogus crush cars for smog credits for the factories program so there's a big push to crush ASAP. :x

I could do that John, but is there much point for these rigs? They'll most likely see a crusher in the next month or so.

TOF, that is the whole point of the registry. To account for as many existing trucks, no matter their condition. This is to be something fun that doesn't cost anything to do, except a little time. Plus the person who contributes the most VINs, preferably with at least one picture, each month wins a prize. At the Registry, read the contests section: http://www.1967-1972fordf-seriesregistr ... m.php?f=20
I will enter my other 3 trucks when I get home. Thanks for everyones help, John.
A side note, there is also a 61-66 and a 73-79 Registry coming soon. Since they share so much with our trucks, I thought it would be interesting to include them.
