I'm thinking about converting from a 4spd to a C-6. I have one in my garage with only about 1K miles on a rebuild with a shift kit. It's been sitting for a year or so and it may be a few months before I get around to doing this. Anyhow, I have heard that these automatics will leak when installed after having sat around for a long time. It's dry and comfy in my garage. Any opinions on this? Thanks.

Jor, i have put several automatics into service after moderate to long periods of inactivity- a couple have had to be re-built after a few(4,5,6000)mi., but these were high mileage to begin with. I would put some name brand lubricant- I have used the Lucas products successfully- and go with it. I think the key is the mileage on them when taken out of service-if it were just inactivity- then a new car that sat on the lot would be subject to a transmission rebuild. imo jd

C6's that sit like to leak at the pan gasket. Mine leaves a good puddle constanly since it only gets driven one a month at most.
If it had sat for years, then you should worry about the rest of the seals. of course, you'd know right away if they were done.

Feel of the front and rear seal, if they look good and feel soft like they suppose too, they should be fine. If it was my tranny, I would go ahead and drain the fluid from the tq converter, if you have it, and from the tranny itself. Replace the tranny filter, pan gasket and fill'er up with some fresh fluid.

Has the torque converter been on it all this time? If so I'd probably change the front seal 'cause the converter sags on the seal. But then you might have other problems anyway so bolt it up and see what happens.

Yea, the trans is sitting on the floor and the torque converter is in a plastic bag. I think I'll do as suggested and replace the pan gasket as well as well as give the front and rear seals a good look. Thanks to all. I'll follow up when I get around to doing the switch.Has the torque converter been on it all this time?
