Power steering conversion question - '67 F100

Post by southern1967f100 »

Hey - I just bought and drove up a nice '67 F100 from Asheville, NC to Brooklyn where I live and am loving it. 1 big problem, however, is there's no way in hell I'm able to parallel park it given the lack of power steering - I mean it's not even close. Where I keep it parked I pull straight in so it's fine - but if I'm driving around the city I definitely need to parallel park.

Any advice on how best to convert to power steering? It's a straight 6 240 with 3 on the tree shifting - 2 wheel drive.

I've looked into kits but they seem to need the steering column be shortened. Also - does the column shifting make this more complicated?

Lastly - I love the truck, no leaks, starts great and runs and sounds sweet - but I wonder if I should sell it and just get a slightly more updated truck with power steering?

Don't be like everyone else and tell me I shouldn't have an old manual steering pickup in the city - your clear and logical thinking won't work on me - clarity and logic loses to passion. :-)

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks, Georgia. I did see that piece and a number of other articles on the topic but it's hard to find part out trucks where the parts still work. I was hoping someone knew of a kit that was a sure bet.

Many thanks again.

A kit will prob cost u big bucks, which is fine if u got it, thats how i would go...but on a budget, look on ebay. I got the pump, gear for very little, like 65$. Had to shorten the column, which wasnt difficult, great tutorial on here and beats the price of a new one. Most difficult part for me was the pitman arm had to be swapped and new drag/steering link put in.

I have a '69 F100 short bed Ranger with a 240 and C-4 automatic. My truck had drums all the way around, no power steering and no power brakes when I bought it in April, 2011.

I added a Ford C-II (C-2) power steering pump, brackets and pulleys from an '82 Ford Bullnose F150 that had a 300 inline six in it.

I was working on multiple things on my truck during this time in 2014 but, the power steering conversion starts here in this thread.

I added power steering to my F-100, piece of cake. I used ford parts from a 73 and I am a happy camper!
