I have a 72 4x4 cab that is pretty rusty. I also have access to a 72 4x2 cab that is straight and rust free. What are the differences? Is the transmission hump cover the only thing needs to be swapped over, or is there more cutting involved?
Thank you

Re: 4x2 cab vs 4x4 cab.
The cabs are the same, there are different holes for the rear cab mounts. Here are a couple quotes in regards to this:
"The spots for both 2wd and 4x4 cab mounts are clearly marked on the bottom of the cab. All you have to do is drill the new holes."
"F-100 2wd and F-250 2wd use the inside frame mounts. All 4x4's and F-350's use the outside cab mounts."
Hope this helps!

Re: 4x2 cab vs 4x4 cab.
WRONG WRONG INFO,, ALL 67/72 F/100/250/350 Cabs are the same PERIOD. difference is the center hump. 4x4's and automatic Trucks have removable hump. 67/72 2wd is 34'' frame rail as well as the 67/72 4x4 trucks 34'' frame rail,, Chassis Did not change till 1973/79 37'' frame rail EXCEPT 73/early 77 4x4 was 34'' rail and then to 37'' , JUST LOOK @ transfer case which will determine on divorce and married case

Re: 4x2 cab vs 4x4 cab.
Jsupreme indicated that both cabs are from a 1972, and that he was aware of the differences of the transmission humps. There is a slight difference in 1967 to mid 1971 cabs in regards to the seat belt anchor for the 3 pt shoulder belts, see page 1 at the bottom of the page: http://www.fordification.com/tech/67-72ID_01.htmJsupreme wrote:I have a 72 4x4 cab that is pretty rusty. Here is a thread that shows the difference in the cab mounts on a F250 4X4 and a F100 4X2 and F250 4X2, and F100 4X4:

Here is another diagram showing the F100 4X2, F100 4X4, and the F250 4X2 with the frame crossmember cab mounting location:

Here is some info in regards to putting a bumpside cab and bed on a dentside chassis:
http://www.fordification.com/tech/chass ... arison.htm
about halfway down the page under DOING A BODY SWAP, it has this to say about putting a bumpside cab on a dentside chassis:
"Mounting the cab and front sheetmetal is a bolt-on affair...there were no changes done to the front part of the frame to affect that. However, keep in mind that the rear cab mounts on all 2WD and F100 4WD trucks are part of the frame crossmember, whereas F250/F350 4WD trucks have a bracket on the outside of the frame. To mount a 2WD cab onto a F250/F350 4WD chassis you'll need to drill new holes in the cab in the areas shown in Fig. 7 (picture coming soon)."

Re: 4x2 cab vs 4x4 cab.
did not know that , most likely did not pay attention when we took of the 4x4 cabs off on the 4x4 f-250 trucks

Jsupreme
Depending on how original you are going the seat belt shoulder mount location moved from the back wall of the cab to the side mid 71. Also the fuel tank mounts different in the 67-69 vs 70-72 with 3 bolts vs 5 and of course the obvious climate control change for 68 through 72 vs the 67 only.
