Folks,
I could not get this posted to a more appropriate place so I am starting a new topic to cover this subject. I saw the technical article on ammeter gauges and thought I would do a quick and general write-up on how the ALT lights and dash ammeter work in many 60s era trucks. It is general enough to cover lots of vehicles using a simple light or a shunt based meter. It has a lot of depth and I suspect you could build your own ammeter with it. It also has basic troubleshooting info. The wire references apply to the F series late 60s truck wiring.
Since I cannot upload the PDF, I will have to post the info in the next post.
Regards

I hope this write-up clarifies how these indicators work and how to troubleshoot them. Since getting my 69 F250 in July I have been looking around this forum for information and thought I would reciprocate with some useful electrical and mechanical posts.
Thanks
