Price of these trucks now-
notice how the asking prices for these “bumpsides” has skyrocketed over the last few years?
When you browse the classifieds you see $7,000, 8,000, 12,000. Whooo!

I recall several years ago when some places in California required $15/hr for fast food workers. McDonald's got rid of most of their counter staff and went to self-order kiosks.basketcase0302 wrote:So...very well said Tom.

Another rant;
Remember back in the ‘90s when the junkyards couldnt wait to crush these trucks for scrap metal prices?
We all told them that the prices for these parts were going to go up - - alot.
They didnt care - mustve needed the money.
I remember counting 24, 67 -72 F100s in the local yard. My truck is full of the junkyard parts; dash, bench seats, hoods etc.
Now I cant even find a good hood hinge.

Calif. was a big problem, few years back the state of Calif. was paying junkyards 1000.00 to any vehicle 1986 and down in any condition to get them off the roads and only thing that could have been done was that vehicle had to be showed coming in the yard and then straight to the crusher with no in between. Now when we were in Calif at those times so many would come up to seeing what we had on out trailer and wished they saw up firsts since instead of giving them 1000.00 would gladly pay more than that back then, we are talking almost 100% rust free damage trucks being flattened and that is one of the many things Calif. does stupid and like the Govt. cash for clunkers which was a 100% screwed up mess

Wrong. That did not happen. You could not legally just haul a trailer loaded with vehicles in to the crusher and collect $1,000.00 from the state. Maybe for steel value at a salvage yard by the pound. Actually steel prices have not been that good either. The Clunker program did not work like a piggy bank for old cars. You might tell that story at the bar but not at a bar where I go.
I have lived in California since the late 1980's and finding low cost pickups has usually been the same in all that time. If you look you can find one. Anyone who wanted to but a pickup had to look if you wanted one that ran for a good price. The price has been steady between $1,000 - $2,000. Some have been priced higher by guys who wanted to get the money they spent on them back and usually ended up sad. Only four wheel drives consistently brought a good price. Even those could be found at a fair price if you looked and had friends. If somebody sold there pickup to be crushed and regrets it maybe they should have tried to sell it in the Penny Saver. That was before Craigslist. I am glad the value of these bumps is finally coming up. Now if only Ranchero's will get more valuable. All the vehicles in my signature are either in my garage being worked on or parked in my yard. Many are even being driven or ridden regularly. All but 3 were on the road four years ago before age and health issues made me slow down. My projects take longer now.
Lastly. Where could you get a $15.00 an hour for flipping burgers a few years ago? I did not know any McDonald's paid more than they had to so the wage comes as a big surprise.

YOU Know just because I am in NC does not mean I do not know what goes on in Calif.. back years ago all the salvage yards had big banners in there yards advertising this and seen it first hand, We would say lets use this for a example Pic A Parts at that time on in Ontario Calif we would pull in and really no parking area since would be at least 50 vehicles staged all to be crushed and owners I talked to received their 1000.00 and those vehicles NEVER Made it ALL WHERE CRUSHED by the state of Calif. and just not that yard any yard that had a crusher had the same banner,. really this is what happened and I personally have been running Calif since 1973 with trucks and knew how to get around the whole state more than home here in NC lets put it this way we run trucks 500,000 to 550,00 miles every 2 years 4- 5 trips a month to the west coast and at my age can still and still run from NC to Calif. in less at times depending on weather and break downs 2 days between me and my wife so I am familiar with what goes on in Calif that what most people in that state do not even know and back then tahst why our Petes were turned up 125 mph pushing 450+ horses to the ground and that is our

Re: Price of these trucks now-
If you have a '76 or newer vehicle that's been continuously registered for the last two years, you can send it straight to the crusher for $1,000. Today. $1500 if you meet so-called low income requirements.6Delta wrote:"Calif. was a big problem, few years back the state of Calif. was paying junkyards 1000.00 to any vehicle 1986 and down in any condition to get them off the roads and only thing that could have been done was that vehicle had to be showed coming in the yard and then straight to the crusher with no in between. Re: Price of these trucks now-
After much consideration I have changed my mind and will agree that the cash for clunkers program is the reason bumps have became scarce and expensive here in California. I was going to outline everything that was wrong about what was alleged to have happened but I won’t now. It is just easier this way. I was wrong. I should have realized no one would sell their 1969 F100 for $1,500.00 cash when they could collect a check for $1,000.00 and get it crushed. I bet in 2009 they wish had some way to trick the government into believing their 70 was a 1982(*). Now I can rest easy knowing why all of the 32 Fords, 48 F100s and 55 T-birds are gone. They were loaded on flatbeds and crushed. It also explain why now guys want to buy my “old” F250 and keep stopping at my house to ask if I would sell one of my Rancheros. They can sell them to Pick and Pull for scrap. My bad. If only I had tried to sell my son’s old 91 Eagle Talon to the CFC program in 2012. I should have known the guy was lying when he said there was no money left in that program in July that year and it didn’t qualify for the program anyway. Just because we weren't going to buy another car. I still don’t understand why Pick and Pull refused to buy it at any price. It ran and just needed a new catalytic converter and the header swapped for a stock manifold to pass smog. Heck they could have parked it in the row by an Eclipse or Probe. They still have the same sign on their fence that says Cash for Cars. (Perhaps it should have been on a flatbed?) Oh well.
I’m not sure who to complain to about the wages paid my kids when they got their first jobs out of high school. For some reason all the places here only paid $6.25 an hour. Something about minimum wage I guess. If only they had tried McDonald’s. Maybe they wouldn’t have had to keep going to school. They must have been paying illegals the big bucks in cash under the table. Sorry guys I was wrong. I was drinking a lot back then, maybe I should start again.
Anyway Merry Christmas everyone. Catch ya on the flip as we used to say.

I'd rather Drive a Junk Yard Queen with Chinese Junk Ford Parts, than a Brand New Fresh Built Chip Foose or "add whoever name Here" with Reworked Ford Skin. And yes, I can Afford the Foose, but everything that I cherish about the Old Trucks would be Gone. Yes, I like the Steering, Brakes Suspension of the Old Girls. Learn to Drive, If you stick AC in and old Farm Truck you need and Ass whipping.

And what is the deal with people spending $50,000, $60,000 for a pickup?
