Progress!

Post by OldBlue67 »

After a while of not going anywhere I'm actually starting to get things done on Blue. Partially due to the weather not sucking lately. So far I've got the rag joint replaced and power steering hose replaced (finally!). He'll be going in for a windshield pretty soon, within the next few days :D :D So thats two things down to getting him back on the road (k'hem legally at least   ). I still need to get the ignition switch put in and, apparently, cause I just got pulled over for it, fix the licence plate light or figure out how to make it look like there never was one :P

Since its not stock for a 67 the only reason they wanted to give me crap for it was my replacement bumper had had one at one time. However I dont remember it ever working and it was painted over when the truck got painted years ago. It actually might have been working but you just cant see it though the layer of blue lol.

By the way I am one lucky b****, like I just said, I got pulled over for the light driving a truck that was not legal in several ways. I know, I should be shamed. Times like that being a cute chick comes in reeeeeal handy ;) Why officer, whatever is the matter?ImageImageImage They gave me a scolding for the light and sent me on my way. *passes out*

Anyway, thats my progress for today. I'm going to head off and wash Blue for the first time in several months (lol) and toss in the air and fuel filters I picked up for him :D

Lemme tell you my experience with cops... and it happens a lot. North Carolina is a seat belt law state. Our trucks only came with lap belts.. which a cop cannot see when they look at you through the window.. Heres the scenario...

I'm driving.. cop pulls up beside me and tugs on his shoulder harness... Nice he's giving me a reminder and a warning.. not being an ass and giving me a ticket....

I point down at my lap, and mouth the words "Lap Belt"... Well the cop immediately assumes I'm saying/suggesting something else... slows down, pulls behind me turns on his lights, pulls me over, Starts coming to my truck.

At this time I put my lap belt on because I never use it... As he comes up to the truck, I roll down my window and he asks for license and registration, which I hand him.. as he is looking at it he says, "What did you say over there when I was telling you to put on your seat belt?", and I say "Officer these trucks only came with lap belts, I was pointing to my lap belt, and saying the words Lap Belt... He looks at me trying to determine if I am telling the truth and says.. are you sure thats what you said? And I saw yessir officer. He then tries to find SOMETHING to write me a ticket for or get on my case for, which he can't cuz I'm completely legal..

Now I wonder why I go through this so often? Could it be because Lap Belt may look similar to another 2 word, 2 syllable phrase that is sometimes said when pointing to your crotch???? :?

I wonder if being a cute chick would get me out of situations like that??? :? :P

Anyway thats my cop run in story... Happens at least 1X a month, exactly the same way described. It's like that movie GroundHog day. You would think cops would be educated to know when shoulder harnesses were required to be installed in vehicles.

lol maybe you should stop telling the cops to Lap Belt, they seem to get upset about it lol I've had a cop yell at me to put on my seatbelt before. I'm kinda bad about remembering sometimes but I actually had it on then.

but Geez if you're getting pulled over that much for it maybe you should start carrying a sign :D

the cops around here don't like big trucks so i have to be extra careful. they pulled me over in my step-dads 76 highboy just cause -finally cited me for not having a horn-i had one it just wasn't hooked up. got the ticket reversed though.

Progress is usually little by little whenever we have time. My Dad was towing me in an 87 Thunderbird that didn't run with my 68 F-100 and a tow strap. A trooper pulled me over and wrote me a ticket for driving with a suspended lisence and not having my headlights on (It was just getting dark and I had the parking lights on to save the battery, brake lights worked). First of all the car has to be running to be driving the vehicle and usually the first vehicle has the "head" lights. I guess cops are too into writing the tickets to look at common sense? :? :(

If the keys were in the ignition, technically you were in control....or so I've been told by local law enforcement. Even if you're parked in a parking lot, the engine not running, but the keys are in the ignition, you can be cited for a moving violation...even DWI.

IMO it's just another example of a one-size-fits-all rule that doesn't!

How did the cop know you didn't have a horn, did he ask to hear it? :dk:

FYI- in NY if towing a vehicle the person in the towed vehicle must be a licensed driver and the tow rope, chain or strap cant be longer than 16 feet. Also in NY operation is classified as being in control of the vehicle on a public highway or a parking lot that contains more than 4 parking spaces and open to the public. Keys in the ignition is not needed for an arrest if a drunk retard had his keys taken away by a bartender and tries to pop start his standard shift car and runs into a parked car before his car gets started.............not made up either............SGT
