Alternator harness

Post by DANZIG »

Does anyone know where I can get the wiring from the starter solenoid,to the alternator, and voltage regulator??
It comes out as one small section. I think mine is bad now because I have a new voltage regulator, alternator and battery yet it wont hold a charge.
Im pretty sure some of this wiriing is bad.

That's something you'll have to get from a donor truck, either from a salvage yard or maybe someone here on the forums with a parts truck. You'll need to make sure the piece you get comes from a truck with the same style of instrument panel you have (idiot lights or gauges), since the two styles of instrument panels each use a different harness. The harness for a truck with gauges has a shunt used to supply power to the ammeter.

So what have you done as far as troubleshooting goes? How did you determine that this harness is bad?

Well, while you're looking for a replacement harness, it wouldn't hurt to use a multimeter to run continuity checks on the wires in your existing harness. You should be able to find the break and repair it easily enough.

Or change over to a one-wire alternator and forget the entire mess. Yes, and you alt gauge as well.

Green70 has been on within the last 24 hours. If you click on 'Visit the FORDification Forums", and scroll to the bottom of the screen. There it lists evryone who's been on in the last 24, so just click on Green70's name, them PM (Personal Message) him from his profile. It will come through to him the next time he logs in.
