Duraspark is a Hall Effect amplification and pickup system. The Hall effect pickup in the Duraspark dist. is too weak to control the coil. That is what the external module does. It amplifies the signal and fires the coil.
The module has 3 wires for the dist. Power in, Ground and Signal. Then the module has the truck interface connector which is 3 or 4 wires depending on model and year. power in(ignition on), Ground, Coil feed and optional tach which later became early computer tach input.

The three wires only supply the timing signal to the ignition module. Actually two are the signal, orange (+) and violet (-), the black one is ground.
You can hook it up to a Duraspark or any aftermarket ignition module. If you go aftermarket I suggest a MSD6, they make an adapter harness so everything plugs in.

"Yeah 220, 221, whatever it takes."
