Basically, instead of the push-pull valve, the steering valve would be a small round part that rotates on the steering shaft between the column and the box.
If a fellow wants some good power steering for his highboy he'd order up a kit from me that would include a new steering shaft with the valve in it, a couple hoses and a quality hydraulic cylinder and mounting brackets.

and how much are we talking about for that hi-quality kit?
cause it sounds like a better option than the 2wd box I have sitting on a shelf here. I really need to get to your shop and discuss a few things with you.
I'll PM you.

I need to build a working prototype first and work any bugs out. I'm tearing apart all the steering boxes I can get my hands on right now to determine which torsion valve will be the most suited to adapt.
I won't be able to quote a price until after I manufacture the parts. There are too many variables at this point.

All I can say is I think it will work and I'll give it a heck of a try to make something quality and offer it at a fair price. My goal is to beat the price of the guy selling the 78-79 box conversion kits. I should be able to. This will take a couple months.

Hey, I've got a couple of leaky Power assist setups on both my trucks. The 75 is really bad....Leaks out of the end of the ram on the tie rod. Not sure where the 69 is leaking yet. How difficult is it to rebuild the ram on the 75? And how do I? Thinking about selling the 75....

Most of the leaky rams have pitted stems right in the middle where it sits going straight down the road. If it isn't pitted, you can just buy a seal kit for it and pop the seal in. If it's pitted, you need to replace the stem. Stems aren't available so you have to make it or have it made. First scribe an alignment mark locating the stem end of the cylinder onto the tube then using a die grinder, cut through the weld. The end will pop right off and you can remove the stem. Unscrew the nut holding the piston onto the stem and either buy some 5/8" hard chrome cylinder stem and machine the stem yourself if you have the equipment or take it to a hydraulic repair shop or job shop to have one made. If you use high quality hard chrome stem stock when you do this it will last forever. Put it all back together and TIG or MIG weld the housing end back onto the tube, install a new seal and your good to go.

So turn it all the way to the right and check for pitting on the shaft? I'm not going to go to all the trouble of replacing the shaft if it's pitted. Someone else can do that..... Where do i get the new seal?

I don't think it is, but the truck has been sitting now for a year since I bought my 97 and I haven't crawled under it in awhile. It leaked pretty bad before that so sitting has very little to do with it. I drug it out last weekend and washed it up. I'll check it when I get a chance. Thanks fer the info.

It's a pretty easy install really. Put the pump on the motor, the control part replaces the original drag link and the ram attaches to the axle and tie rod. You need the tie rod with the hole in it for the ram to attach. Took me about 1/2 day to add all the parts to my 69.
