ooh i need to paint my rims. i have the same rims as you and mine are dirty with a little surface rust. you just inspired me to paint mine .
your new painted rims look really nice .
and i read about your brakes. i took my drum brakes apart yesterday and replaced the shoes. now my brakes dont lock up .
edit: oh and what you said about the PO using a chisel on the retaining nut, thats what i used
me too.
so how did you do it? did you go as far as taking off the tire or did you just tape off everything? im probably just going to tape off everything.
I got the auxillary tank out. I would like to meet the person who decided to attach the parking brake cable to the front of the tank. I would thank him for wasting 20 minutes of my life because the nut (not the engineer, the actual nut) was frozen. I finally got it loose.
There was some NAAAAASTY "gas" in that tank. I got it all out along with a lot of rust. I found a small rust hole as well. I'll either repair it or try to find another tank. I'll check out my parts catalogs to see if anyone is reproducing them.
Stay tuned...

Repair the tank and put it back in. I know all about the nut on the front of the tank holding the parking brake. I thought that odd as well, then I realized that if it wasn't held there, it would bang against it the whole time, so you have to have that fastener.
No one makes the tank so get a eastwood catalog, order the tank repair kit and go to town! Clean and good as new.
I haven't given up. I've been spending some time getting the shed ready. I got some lights up this past week and plan on getting the feed from my other building out there so I can get some outlets and a circuit for the free welder I got.
I have the aux tank out and rinsed out. I still have some work to do there. I took out the sending unit and used the pressure washer to gently spray some of the crud off it.
The little wire was just hanging so I have to figure out where it attaches. The other piece in the picture was in the tank, not attached to anything. The good news is that you can blow air through the pick up tube. I have to investigate this piece futher.
The 'stuff' that came out of that tank was awful. I put the wand of the pressure washer in the tank and sprayed around loosening up clumps of crud. I've swished a small piece of chain and ZEP Industrial cleaner in there. It's just real awkward to handle. I found a few more rust holes that I'll need to patch. I'll try to get some before and after pics of the tank and skid plate posted tomorrow.
The saga continues...

There was a heap of rust and crud in the tank, even after I pressure washed it. I have been performing electrolysis with the aux tank. I used rebar for the electrodes. You can see a pic of the set up and one of the used electrodes. It was a clean piece of rebar at the start. Sure has attracted a bunch of rust. I wrapped rubber pieces of tire inner tube for insulators around the portions of the rebar that would contact the tank.
The next step is to boil the tank. I plan to put it in a metal barrel over a fire and boil it out. I'll post up those pics when I'm done.

Yessir, it is a F-20 one of 4 that my father has. He has one acre of land with 4 F-20's, one Ford 8N, and one Case VAC. You might imagine how happy my mother is about all that!

Well, the tank boiling didn't work. Couldn't get the water over 135 degrees. Oh well, between the electrolysis and heavy strength detergent, it's pretty clean in there.

Just wanted to let you all know that I haven't quit on the truck, just needed to take a timeout. The last thing I did was get the aux tank all cleaned out and patched.
I've had to take a little time off from mechanical matters. My 2 year old daughter had heart surgery today. It was scheduled and we've known it was coming since before she was born. This is her 3rd to correct a developmental problem with her left ventricle. We'll be here in Atlanta for about another week for her recovery. She is doing well and on the way to a full, normal life!!!!!
I'll get back to y'all when I get home and get things squared away.
