Just welcomed a Chevy into my Ford Family...

Post by indytexan929 »

Yes, I know, I know. But I have a good reason!

The truck belonged to my wife's grandfather who I was very close to. He was the original owner, and it was handed down to my mother-in-law when he passed in 2003. My wife and her came up with a plan to sneak it down here to me (from Amarillo, TX to Dallas, TX) without me knowing. I came in from work one afternoon, and there was my brother-in-law sitting on my couch. My mother-in-law was hiding around a corner, and as I'm trying to figure out why he was there, she comes out and hands me the keys. Pretty good job of putting one over on me!!! Never saw it coming! I'm glad to have it, and thought you guys could appreciate it.

Well, its like apples to oranges. My 68 Ford has a 240 and 3 on the tree, the Chevy has a 350 and automatic. Two totally different worlds.

I see a lot of potentinal in that truck, it looks pretty nice. My grandpa had an old GMC just like it, it was a good ol truck. Just don't bring it to the meet and greets :)

The odd looking things above the front wheels are antenna mounts. Everyone in the family are ham radio operators, and at one time that truck looked like a porcupine. There are all sorts of modifications that Grandpa made to the truck. He added 2 saddlebag gas tanks, steps that come out when you open the doors, and an intercom system from the cab into the camper area. Pretty cool stuff!

I bet that 240 would beat that 350 chevy. My 300 did.

That front/grill-mounted spare tire would make a nice push bar or bumper. Put a bigger tire on it and you'd be good to ram someone, if you wanted to.

That's not bad looking for a Chevy. Before they went to the square style they had for several decades.

These kinds of events are priceless no matter what the item you receive is. That truck being in your family the way it has been makes it priceless as well. What a great gift from your wife's family. Ultimately, all old iron is worth having, especially when there is such cool history with it. Two thumbs up for this one...

We had a 72 C20 Camper Special my dad bought from an old Neighbor. He sold the slide in camper and cleaned up the yellow and white truck and it was a nice truck....for a Chevy. lol I actually owned it a year or so. It was a 350/4v automatic. It would carry a heck of a load with all the overload springs under it. Even geared the way it was it was not very fast but it had very tall tires.
I could never get used to hall tight the cab felt. Seemed like the dash pad was right in your lap and that HUGE steering wheel was all up in my gut and I didn't have much of a gut back then

I own my great uncles c10(72)
Best part about the chevy is if you have a cab and a frame you can build an entire truck.

Is that a 69 or 70?
