Our son is over in Iraq on tour # 3. :( E-8 Sargent, US Army. Can't wait til he gets home, his wife is in Air Force too, both in at about 15 years. They have 2 kids who miss him so bad, I feel uneasy about it all ...I hope we as a nation support these troops when they get home, and any problems they may have or may get.
Salute to you guys and gals .....

A little late but...
From this third generation DD214 veteran, happy Veterans day. I'll go to Golden Corral restaurant tomorrow for a free meal they provide for veterans, (only the 2nd time I've gotten anything from my being a veteran).
Very sad, only two flags flying on my street of 30-40 homes, (one of which was mine-everyday without hesitation)!

:yt: If not you should look into it. They have given my Dad lots of benefits! I know this is a little late, but I have to give a thanks. To all the people that have served before me that gave me a chance, to have an option to serve my country. Because of them I can stand up and say I volunteered, and it is because of them that I get a chance to ensure this tradition is passed on to the next generation.

On the backs of the older wiser men,
Their thoughts and dreams now I defend
The pride within them ringing true
With the crisp salute for the red, white and blue
We didn't choose or pick these fights
But deep inside we know what is right
Regardless of all the political views
Or the propaganda from your evening news
We are just people making ends meet
With families, mortgages, and schedules to keep
A special thanks for those before
Because of you I got to choose my door
So remember your Veterans; young and old
And listen to there stories whenever there told

Memorial Day
Veteran's Day
Armed Forces Day

Three days out of 365 where we get the honor as one great nation, to publicly give thanks to those who gave all, those who came home, and those we hope and pray stay safe, until they get home.
What our service men and women give to the world, no amount of money can replace.
It was certainly an honor to serve, and it's just as great an honor to have the opportunity to serve our Veterans.
If you are a Vet or current active duty, I'd highly recommend getting involved with your local American Legion and/or VFW post. It is incredibly rewarding.
As a member, you'll have the opportunity to impact the lives of our veterans, and active duty personnel on a daily basis.
Patriotism does not ETS.

They've given up on me! Being legally married, (and legally separated for over one year now) I can't get squat from the VA! As the late Jerry Reed sang: "She got the gold mine-I got the shaft!"
Would sure be nice to go see a doctor.

I did get to go eat a free meal at Golden Corrall last night, (free meal provided to Veteran's). It was an awesome night to be surrounded by WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, and a few younger men maybe Iraq war veterans!

Great poem Billy!

Vets can use the VA as far as I know. Has nothing to do with being married or not. The VA is about the Vet.

They actually base services on what your 1040's state. She made way...too much money last year, and I well...being unemployed much of the year, didn't make squat. But the combined "joint" income leaves me out in the cold! The system isn't right, spoke to a vietnam vet at dinner Monday night that has waited 11 weeks to see a doctor, (that's once approved and scheduled). I believe most of us will die before ever getting through the front door of a VA hospital. Not by no means knocking the VA, the system just aint' right as far as I'm concerned.
