anyone know anything about trees?

i have this evergreen tree i replanted several years ago. it has grown very large since replanting it. earlier this year the tree started turning brown. but hasnt died. it has looked like this most of the year so far. when i moved the tree i put it right on top of my water line. i know a stupid move. but i did it anyway. i am thinking i may have let the tree gather up galvanizing from the pipe and rust too. does anyone know fo rsure if this is the probelm with this tree? this is part of my parent trees in my front yard. i dont want to kill the tree. i am going to have to move it for sure. because of the water line thing. but i wanted to know what i should do to save the tree first.

i wouldnt think thE water line would be an issue. How has your rain fall been since planting ? It can take up to a year for a drought to take effect of a tree. ive seen alot of this in evergreens aoround here in NC. Weve had some really dry summers around here but the damage doesnt show until the next summer. Its what it looks like to me. did you water it enough after transplant? Most transplants need to be done in the cooler times of the season to prevent shock.

You can start by cutting all of the dry dead branches back to where they are green on the inside. Then I would move it off the water line and keep it watered. Check with a nursery in town. Beyond that they will know much more.

I showed it to my Nephew the arborist. He agrees with cutting the dead off, but he thinks it may very well be to late, and the tree will most likely die. Good luck with it.

That is called Cytospora Canker. You will have to remove all the infected branches. She's in pretty bad shape. I doubt the dead will ever grow back, even after you cut it.

And I think it may be to late as it looks as it has already affected over half of the tree.

thanks. it looks like i may just look to replace the tree. after i cut off all those lower limbs it will probably look like shieep. i read several web pages about that disease. and that is what it has. we always wondered what those black looking spores were on the leafs.

I lost a nice Spruce to it because I didn't know what it was untill it was too late. I called the guy from OSU extension to come look at it he told me all about it (Cytospora Canker).

At least it's a relatively small tree. I have seen some MASSIVE Pondarosa Pines out here at work that have it. They were planted in the 40's.

i moved both of those trees from directly in front of the house out to my side of the sidewalk several years ago. they were both about 3-4 feet high at the time. this one took me and my neighbor to get it out of the hole and into a wheel barrel to move it out there. it was pretty heavy at the time. i dont know if i could move it now. well by hand.

Stumps aren't too hard to pull out; since that is what your looking at having to do.

well i took a look at how many branches would have to be cut off. and the tree wouldnt have much left if i cut the braches all the way back to the truck like the web sites say to do. so i may cut the tree down. and replace it with one of those spriral evergreens. what do you think about those? do they grow very large? i am guessing this is a spruce tree. its not a pine. and possibly not a ceder. but it could be soem kind of cedar.

Spiral evergreens are trees. I like em. You could grind the old stump out. Doesn't cost much to have done around here.

i would just cut it off at ground level. and leave it. i have cut 5 other trees on the property. and let them go away on there own. you can barely see two of them anymore.
