termites HELP

Post by fordman »

my garage seems to be a favorite place for termites. i have battled them for years. i have never had it sprayed. i just started puttign all my lumber off the gravel floor. i know they do climb. this last go around i found today. the wood was up on treated 4x4 blocks. but they stll came and ate into some of my stuff. what i am thinking of doing is to place black plastic down on the gravel. then putting blocks of some height or another on top of that. and then putting the wood back on top of that. would one layer of plastic be enough? or should i put the plastic over the 4x4 blocks or 8 inch concrete blocks? would the plastic bet in better use up high? and protect my siding better? this is a stck of T11 siding 4x8 sheets that i store on the side against one wall.

Dry poison on the floor around the walls. Pour it in the cracks between the studs and wallboards too.

well i saved the plastic. and just put the 4x4s back down after raking the gravel up to clean it and fill in the old holes from where the 4x4's sat. i then since the hardware store was already closed we put all the good wood right back on top of the 4x4's. i do have some of that white roach power. is that what borax is? i dont think it is. i can still spray under the pile of wood. on the other side fo the wall is a pallet sitting on top of four 8 inch concrete blocks. they dont climb that and eat that wood. so if i move the wood again i will have to dig out soem other concrete blocks and use them and apallet to get the wood up high enough. plus the spray or whatever i use. will help get rid of them i guess.

Termites help. They do pretty good as it is. They don't need any help. Just kidding with a little humor.

If they're subterranean even what you've done won't help Craig. And keep in mind that termites do fly. They do look for a moist place usually, try to eliminate the moisture if possible? I've seem some awful damage done by them in over 30 years in the building management-A/C industry.

I have had the same type of problems in the past from Carpenter Ants. They also destroy the wood, but seem to be easier to deal with. Of course Carpenter Ants do not eat the wood they just like to tunnel into it.
