If they are different I wonder how involved modifying the 67 frame would be? Has anyone done what I was thinking. Taking the 4X4 running gear from the 72 and putting it in the 67?

YES! There are a few members here that have converted their crew cabs from 2WD to 4WD. I'd recommend you look through the Project Updates section and you'll find them. Can it be done?
