Honda CL90 Scrambler

Just thought I'd share some pics of my latest project scoot. Some of you may recall that I like playing with these old Hondas, and since it's my slow time of the year I thought I'd jump on this one. Not sure of the year yet, but it's a late sixties Honda CL90 Scrambler. I picked her up for $300 and hope to fix it up a bit, obtain a title, and turn a small profit (unless I decide it's too neat to sell, which could definetly happen ). Anyhow, here's some pics:



This is exactly how I brought it home. It runs, but the gas is pretty old and it could use a little tuning. It pulls pretty strong for a 90 though! 90cc's of rip snortin Honda fury...

That and the trail 50 were the first two I'd ever ridden. That one's in nice shape!

Neighbor had one similar to that and I had a little Honda Z50. My recollection was his had a lot more of that boxed frame toward the front though?

Remember he had a speedometer and I didn't. One day we were riding side by side so I could see how fast mine would go. I had shorts on... and brushed up against his muffler. Doh!! Remember wiping puss and changing bandages for a long time after that.

That's one well preserved little bike you got there and a very reasonable price I'd guess.

Thanks guys! Yeah, it's not too bad. The things it needs are foot peg rubbers, a headlight housing, a good polish, the correct mirrors, a little paint here and there, and a set of tires. They have good tread but lots of dry rot.

Bob, they made three types of 90's. The S90 (or super 90) was the strictly street version. Here's a pic of one I did up a few years ago:

Then there is the one I just bought; the scrambler. It's basically the same except cosmetics and the high exhaust and crossbar on the handlebar.
The third 90 was the Trail 90. It was totally different than the other two and kinda had a step through frame. I found this pic on photobucket:

All of them tend to bring decent money (especially when nice) compared to other makes of the same era. They are bullet proof, and if you get a group of 10 guys together at least two or three of them will have some sort of fond memory of riding an old honda as a kid. The Super 90 I sold on ebay (for $1500 after a $300 investment) to an older gentleman who had owned one as a teen and wanted to relive those memories. I was expecting like $600 and couldn't believe it bid that high. I don't expect that from this one since the scrambler seems to be more common, but we'll see I guess.

My first bike was a Honda XL-70. That was a fun little ride! It looked just like this one!

Cool! Looks a lot like my first dirtbike, which was a 1971 SL125.

My buddies had to be the S90 with the lower swung tail pipe. That's the part of the bike I remember the best...
We used to ride around in their cow pasture on the trails the cows make around the place. Remember that thing seemed really heavy back then...!

Well lets see, at an average of 30mph over the entire 1/4 mile that would work out to about 30 seconds wouldn't it? Top speed is a blistering 59 mph, but that's probably with a 140 lb guy on it.

Cool scoot! Funny, I was just inquiring about a 1970 Honda CL450 scrambler on another forum before I stopped in here. I'm a motorcycle crackhead and have a pretty serious Scrambler itch to be scratched.
