OT: Inattentive drivers - that was close
She is relatively OK, but my daughter was hit by a car while riding her bicycle home from classes two days ago.
Broken nose, huge scrape on her forehead, stitches in her hand, bruises all over and can barely walk due to general trauma/soreness. Bike and Computer totaled...
All because someone did not see her and turned left into her.
It could have been SO MUCH worse though, she was wearing a helmet and she will recover but will probably have some scarring on her face, legs and hand.
Lets be careful out there!

Glad to hear that she is going to be ok, hope she gets better soon.
On a side note the other day I almost had to pick a mini cooper out of my grille.

Were they texting while driving? Texting while driving has become my biggest pet peev to date and is a modern day epidemic.

I don't know, the police report makes no mention of it and it is a pretty exhaustive report. It is a very heavily traveled area on the UGA campus and there were quite a few witnesses, I would think that someone would have mentioned it, but you never know.fireguywtc wrote:Were they texting while driving? ...

Re: OT: Inattentive drivers - that was close
I am not shocked that someone was driving with their head up their you-know-what and caused an accident. It happens plenty without cell phones as well, though I admit I also wanted to rant a bit about my hatred for texting while driving. Perhaps we should start issuing glass stomachs so everone can see where they are driving.
I am very glad that your daughter is okay and hope all goes better from here on out.

Glad she's ok Robert. I'm afraid my city is on this list of "worst city's to drive in":

I'm glad she is ok. I can't tell how many GA drivers I see with the phone held to the left ear and blocking all of the left side peripheral vision when I ride past on the Harley. Most people think they can do several things at the same time. I guess they don't understand when you time share tasks, all of the tasks suffer.

Good morning Robert,
Yikes, what an event! I only rode a bicycle on the road a few times, and I can remember how vulnerable I felt mixing with the cars. Glad to hear of the relatively fortunate outcome.

Re: OT: Inattentive drivers - that was close
In spite of the the title, all that I'm aware of the lady doing wrong is failing to see my daughter and turning left in front of her. It is pretty clear from the report that the police were expecting the injuries to be much worse (IE: car was impounded and charges were held until after the police went to the hospital), I am thankful that it turned out as well as it did.
My daughter is still having many lingering issues and much pain and difficulty walking and doing everyday task. Also some lingering effects of the concussive closed head injury and unconsciousness. That is in addition to the obvious bruising cuts abrasions and so forth.
She is having to depend on friends to get her to classes because no actual college student can afford parking (which is about 50% of the reason she was riding the bicycle to start with) and even if they could there isn't any available and no guarantee it would be near her classes if it were.

Well, it's good to hear she is doing as well as she is. Scary stuff for an adult, really scary for a little kid. I'd contact the school and see if they can help her out with her short term disability issues.
My only advice is have her wait before signing any insurance stuff. I'm still getting bills in the mail for when I smooshed my finger at work two months ago that now they are saying workmans comp isn't going to cover.

DuckRyder sorry to hear about your daughter. Hopefully she will make a full recovery and not have any effects of the wreck. Some people are just stupid behind the wheel now a days. I can't count how many times i almost been hit in my car because idiots can't use both hands because of a phone, Have the police check the drivers phone records to see if they were paying attention.
