The proper lug nut lube is the zinc that's on the wheelstuds.
Antisieze should work, but can definitely lead to overtorqueing.
I think common sense goes a long way here. If you're wheelstuds like like hell and all the zinc's gone then some antisieze in moderation and a properly REDUCED torque value would be a good choice.
I had a hell of a time keeping wheels ON a vehicle after spraying the lugnuts with PB blaster to get them loose. Took about 2 hours to go 30 miles stopping every 1/4 mile to retighten the lugs. When I got back home I cleaned all the threads and nuts and the problem disappeared.

I worked at different nuclear power stations for about 10 years as a fitter and only about 2% of the time anti-seize wasn't requested to be used in the workorders, I unbolted a lot of stuff when i was working there, Manway covers, Expansion joints, ect. Never had a bolt ring-off or saw any back-off when we unbolted stuff. When the powerstation's would have a scheduled shutdown i would somehow end up being on the crew that got the job of pulling the inspection cover off the steam generators and i never saw a stuck bolt. I don't know how hot a steam generator gets but when its at operating tempeture it grows 10" taller or more. We used the high temp anti-seize on them though.

with anti-seize you need to use "wet torque" specs.averagef250 wrote:The proper lug nut lube is the zinc that's on the wheelstuds.

Dry graphite film is a good choice that's not petroleum based.

HAHAHA Right?????? that stuff ends up on the celling in the bathroom its so bad1970 Hi-Boy wrote:I've used Anti-seize on mine for a long time, sure does help. Even if I end up being silver up to my elbows every time I use it. What is it with that stuff anyway? Seems the harder I try to keep it off of myself, the more of it I get on me.
