Thinking of running djm beams

Post by 70chargedandstroked »

Hey guys, I am new to the forum and need some advice. I have a 70 bumpside which I am planning on putting a set of djm beams and their shackle kit on the rear. My question is what size tire should I run? Have a set of 18x9 wheels now. Was thinking about 255x45r18. What do y'all think and who has some photos that are close to what I am brainstorming on?

Don't feel bad, I posted two questions 4 or 5 days ago and nothing but crickets....

Wish I could help ya, but for what it's worth I am planning on running a similar diameter.

I dont have any pic's..But have you looked at the top of this section? there are lots of lowered bump's with different size wheels. I too am going to run djm beams on one of my dent's. But I will stick to 15" wheels. I dont think our trucks look good with big wheels. But good luck. :2cents:

I installed the beams, and shackle kit as well. I was happy with the drop that it gave me. Although, I'm embarrased to drive my truck around in fear of being called a poseur!

Filthy67 Your truck is one of my favorites on here. But 70chargedandstroked was asking for opinions. A few members gave just that. :D

That truck looks great. Mine is at the paint shop now. I am only hoping mine looks half as nice. I am staying with the original white that it came with. Biggest difference between ours is that I am trying it with a long bed. I am running a 347 striker motor built locally and have a SC for it but haven't put it on yet. Kinda scared to because with it being a long bed, afraid it may get to loose on me. May have to go to a four link but was hoping it be okay with the shackles and a good rear end.

I have DJM Beams and 10 years and almost 30K miles later still no problems and have 17x8 on front and 17x9.5 on rear. Excuse me while I strike a pose.

I would highly reccomend you do the Four Link. you will have 400+HP and a weakened leaf spring rear will not hold up, your u Joints and rear yoke will break from the wheel hopping. I also have 400HP and I went with de-arched rears with a leaf or two removed and relocated hangers and after replacing U joints and rear yoke and bending a drive shaft enough to be replaced, I got new rear leafs and did a flip. (I already had done c notch). It's not as good as I imagine a four link is but worlds better than it was.
Sounds like you are building a nice truck and you'll be much better off doing suspension as good as possible to start with.
