Boy... Look what I started. Haha. I'm not bashing new technology, or someone else's decision to buy a 45,000 dollar truck, And I guarantee that these rigs can do some impressive things. I was merely stating my opinion on a forum filled with other dudes that own 40+ year old trucks. My point is if a guy like me (who by the way isn't old) wants a no frills basic 8 foot bed 4x4 with a v8, It's going to cost me over 30 grand, and I'll have trouble finding it. I built and priced a new ford truck that fits me needs last night on their website. I agree it's a better business decision to appeal to the masses, instead of the random simple guy like me. So ford won't be selling me a new truck anytime soon. I'll be buying used. I doubt either me or ford motor company will lose any sleep over it though.

"Military grade aluminum"

They must figure folks with brains won't be buying Fords anymore so why market towards them?

I don't see anything wrong with aluminum, but presenting there's a parallel between aluminum in the new trucks and something our military depends on is asinine.

New trucks being "better" than bumps is subjective though. New trucks handle better, but they won't be here in 40 years. New vehicles have sub- ten year lifespans. The old ones can be maintained. New ones cannot. They are designed to last a pre-determined time and rapidly fail.

I can buy a LOT of bumpsides for 40K or 50K though.

Just think of the possibilities! In my market, you could likely end up with one of each of the following, and have money left over:
4x4's: Highboy in both shortbox and standard box and flareside and styleside, and Crew
2x4's: Camper specials in full dress, bare bones; Custom, Ranger, in every engine size and drivetrain....

But, you'd have to have one helluva garage.

(Agreed that the new trucks rock though. They really are some of the best products ever rolled out with a blue oval aboard. I just can't afford them along with all of my other toys).
too many Fords, no where near 'nuff time.

or, money.

My truck is owned by me, not the bank. I was able to pay cash for it. It has a 12 foot bed, a hoist to dump, I can add bed sides to haul 5 yards of mulch. It has hauled 5 tons of old broken up concrete. It has electric wipers that clean the large winshield clean. It has a working heater/defroster. The bench seat sits 3 adults comfortably. It has an AM radio. It has West Coast Jr mirrors for great vision of what is beside and behind me. It has power steering. In the summer time the 2 vents, windows and wing vents provide sufficient air as long as I am moving. What more could a guy want?

When I bought this truck for $2600 in Sept 2012, a friend asked why I don't get a new or good used truck..... I told him with this old one it is different, cool, and I don't have monthly payments. Nuff said!

Well said Abe.

Just got my franken bump (hybrid 67 & 72 ) depending on what way you look a it.

Looked at newer trucks, sure they have modern conveniences, as well as this thing called gas mileage, but on the bump, I don't need a NASA support team, a programmer and a pit box full of tools to wrench on it. :D

It's got creaks and rattles and she drips a bit sometimes, but it is paid for, and I like the feeling when I drive it.
To me , the older stuff has soul and attitude.

But I do hope more people decide to upgrade to a new truck and sell off those old junkie 67-72 trucks cheap

Well I like " old red" my red Ford Ranger XLT short bed.
I would not mind if it had a few of the 2015 luxury add on too.

I like the new Ford trucks too. They look good and have lot of creature comforts too.

As for the new Dodges and Camaros , they are ok BUT I like the new Ford Mustangs wwwaaayyy better.

I see nothing wrong with having an honest opinion about likes and dislikes.

I also think this is the best site period. :woohoo: :fr: :fr: :fr: :fr: :fr:

I do like the style of the new trucks, but I have to agree that the thing that seems to drive most of us away from newer trucks is that they are damn near impossible to work on. For example, I just bought a 2014 focus because I have an awful commute. 2 weeks into owning it, it wasn't shifting correctly and wouldn't go into gear after coasting. I popped the hood to see if there was anything blatantly obvious and didn't know where to start. It turns out the tranny needed a firmware update.... yes firmware. I am used to hearing that when one of my switches or routers stop working in our server closet..but in a car? How is a guy supposed to work on a car that requires a doctorate in software programming to tell a transmission to shift?

Disposable vehicles these days. Soon they will be like a desk top personal computer, a life span of 7 years

You folks not buying new vehicles because they are complicated to work on, (which I agree with).
Think how our grand parents of the horse and buggy era felt when the first automobile came out.

It would be good if the new vehicles with all the extras was as simple to work on as the Ford Model T was.

I think the new Ford trucks have come a long way. I don't have one but it would be nice.
