Great job! Will the same booster work on a bump? I like the small diameter.

Y block? The motor? It never had one. it had a 300 6 in it. Or maybe the smaller 6. But this 289 was free so we slapped her in there about 8 Yrs ago.

Minus the MC. all of that costs like $85 which is a deal cause remand oem dual diaphragm boosters are that price. But u get a boat load more stopping power.

Yup, "Y" block, 292 to be exact. But like you said if it had the 6 cylinder it was most likely the 223. Somebody can jump in here but I think there were 3 engine choices for the next year model in '65. 240 6 cyl, 300 6 cyl. and the 352 V8. In '64 the engine choices were the 223 6 cyl and the 292 V8. I have 3 "Y" block engines here, a 272, 292 and a 312 which was mostly used in T Birds until 1958. The 272 I own is bolted to a Borg Warner automatic in a '34 "Hot Rod Lincoln" I built it in '69. And yes, I got chased, a lot! Never caught! Great engine choice of the 289, great job!

Thanks :D yes I tried to talk my dad into doing the upgrade right. And find a 292 w/trans to drop in there. As all the fab work that was needed to fit that 289 would cost just as much as finding a 292 used or maybe even rebuilt. But as an testament to my father's stubbornness we did it His way and as an example that he hasn't changed. If u notice the booster upgrade is still a single MC and not a proper safe dual MC  it took almost 15 years to talk him into a booster upgrade.

In my opinion the 289 was the right choice for your truck. The 292 was what Ford was building at the time and a lot of them broke the crankshafts at the number 1 main bearing in cold weather. Valve adjustments for the solid lifters and oil delivery to the rocker arms were a constant challenge for older engines. There is also some discussion among older folks that the old flathead should have been upgraded instead of the Y block. :hmm: But GM had a winner with their 265 later upgraded to the 283, 327 etc. And Chrysler, well they just figured there's no replacement for displacement and were building monsters. Nuff said. :zz: There are still quite a few 292's around this country though and a decent rebuildable one can be had for about $150 to $300 with heads. Also, the 292's in your truck had a crossover exhaust pipe across the top front of the engine resulting in more burned wrists than one thought possible. From the pictures it appears you were able to get your left hand exhaust delivery past the steering box alright but it must still be a tight fit. One thing I found out was the brake light switch with it's upward position would deliver a delayed light on our Ford's. The trick is to put a couple drops of brake fluid into the switch then quickly screw it into the master cylinder. Enjoy your upgrade, I bet it's quiet and very quick!

Using those "universal" parts, what is modifications are needed to get it to work? Pedal pin bushings or drilling holes for firewall mount?

Thanks, yes for an old heavy truck and a tired 289 she's got some pep In her. Especially with such high gears in the back. I'm playing with the idea of finding an aod to swop out the c4. And or put some 3.55 gears in the 9". That poor 289 on the high way is just screaming the whole way. I've gotta do something to reduce the rpms on that 289.
