1969 F100 Trim Options?

Post by 1969_Rookie »

Does anyone know the extent of they trim options for 1969 F100? The reason I ask is, I ordered a piece of bedside moulding for my 1969 long bed F100 from a salvage yard. When it arrived it was about 5 1/4 inches too short. The salvage yard is telling me it came off a '69 long bed sport. Because it has the "sport" option this is why it is shorter and most trucks in this year came like this. I have a Ranger and I know there are other trim options but when it comes to moulding it's either long bed or short bed that I have found. ( they are trying to charge me an extra $40 to return and get correct piece because I didn't specify) This is why I ask. Thanks!

If it's the narrow belt line trim, like is on my '69 Ranger, the narrow trim was also available on the later model trucks.

However, '70-'72 models had a bedside marker light and the narrow trim would have stopped just in front of the marker light. This would probably account for why the trim piece you got is too short.

Thank you. It is definitely from the Explorer version. Does anyone know if they made an Explorer in 1969?

The photo I posted was just an example of the trim stopping at the side marker light of a '70-'72 model truck.

1967 trim was 1-1/4" wide. 1968-1972 medium-width trim, black accents (1-1/2" wide) This was the only style available for '68-'69 Custom Cab and Ranger models. All models with two-tone paint also got this trim, to cover the area where the two paint shades meet. The '70-'72 Custom (base model), Sport Custom and Explorer models also used this style if the "bright side moldings" option was requested.

A simple question to the people you bought the trim from would be, "did the bed have a side marker light at the rear corner ?" '69s didn't have a marker light on the side of the bed. That didn't start until 1970.

If their answer is, "yes," then you know the trim didn't come off a '69 model (or, a'70-'72 bed had been put on a '69 model truck).

In any case, the side trim you need would have to come from a '68 or '69 model long wheel base truck that doesn't have the bed side marker lights.

Ask them to send you a photo of the truck the trim came from.

Also, check out the moldings in the LMC, NPD, etc catalogs.

After you get their photo, send them a photo of your truck. If they are honest, they will let you exchange it or return it for a refund.

No matter what happens, post something about your experience with them in the vendor section.

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in garages. (Apologies to Kenneth Grahame.)
