Re: What did you do to YOUR bump today?
Pretty good weekend. Got the new shocks installed in the rear and redid the whole front brakes. The hoses were very dry and cracked but no seepage. Wheel cylinder on the drivers side was frozen and on the passenger side it had been leaking and soaked the shoes which the shoes on both sides had very little wear on them. Drivers side adjuster was frozen as well. Passenger side had on long spring that was really stretched and one the hook end has broke right at the end and just holding on. Truck stops straight as a arrow now.
The person that came over and did them just tore into it and put it all back together without any sort of system. I can say, I'll go out and by the tools and try it myself the next time. I asked him about doing a clutch and he asked why with only 88k. I told him it seems I have to get the rpm's up to get it to move lately. I've only driven it in and out of the driveway and up the col de sac a couple times. Well, looks like I've been starting in 3rd instead of 1st. Pull lever towards me and up for reverse, pull lever towards me and down for 1st then up and over for 2nd and down for 3rd.
Needless to say the clutch is fine. Well, nothing going to get done the rest of this coming week as I'll be in Vegas. But, when I get back I'll replace the rear spring, oil change, temp sending unit and then pull out the interior and do a good cleaning.
All tucked away for the next couple weeks.

I hauled three cords of elm (given to someone else), and two cords of seasoned black walnut (given to me!), then wrestled with the Carter AFB carburetor, trying to find a happy curb idle. Apparent success. We'll see.

Drove it for the first time in 3+ years!
Tomorrow it gets new tags, and a real honest-to-goodness washing! Tuesday it gets driven to work.
Cheers,
Duane

Drove it Saturday on a 250-mile round trip to a family reunion, where it stood out as one that our grandfather would have driven. He bought a new Ford truck every two or three years, always bare-bones and red, except for his last truck, a 79, I believe, in two-tone green.

Took the 71 F-500 from home to my office building, where I had to change a parking lot light bulb. An hour of driving, five minutes in the bucket to change the bulb.
But, it is always gratifying to drive a five ton truck over rough roads and not have parts fly off.

Re: What did you do to YOUR bump today?
this weekend - on the f100 cleaned up the water pump, cleaned up the fuel pump, scrubbed down the alternator bracket and the timing cover. used lots of purple power and elbow grease. arp bolts came in finally in the mail late in the day so i will start slapping the engine together tomorrow. took multiple trips to the parts store. finally found 2 hoses that may work for the lower radiator hose. will know for sure soon. last one had to put in the oven till the rubber burned my hands and used dish soap to force on there. not this time
tracked down a shorter belt for the 460 on the f250. ripped out all the smog and put the short belt on there. huge improvement and don't have to listen to the smog pump scream anymore. put monroe shocks all around on the f250. 1 of them was a booger bear. put the air wrench on there, cooked the rubber bushing smoke going everywhere while simultaneously hammering on other side with a sledge and finally got it out. ordered some f250 door hinges.

I moved my 70 from my shop back home to my garage, to make room to start doors and tailgate.

Re: What did you do to YOUR bump today?
Did a whole lot of carb tuning on the '71 - choke, idle, cam, etc. One of the problems was a bad base gasket... got the beeyotch to finally choke, fast idle reset, and idle. Adjusted the timing to 12° BTDC.
650 RPM idle seems like a pipe dream... I'm at 800 RPM. Any lower and the ol' girl starts to sputter.

De-Stroyed the starter on the F-500 when the starter drive stuck. DO NOT BUY REMANUFACTURED STARTERS FROM ORIELLY'S. This is the fourth starter in five months from three different OReilly's. One dead out of the box; two with 'dead spots' in them, but they tested perfectly on the bench at the store; and then this one, which has been sticky since the get-go. Apparently Mexican quality control leaves a bit to be desired.
Tomorrow I'll take this one down to a local shop and have it rebuilt by the guy who owns the place. Pretty damned sure he'll get it right the first time.

Re: What did you do to YOUR bump today?
Laundry list of little stuff this weekend.
Repainted tail/backup lights, LED tail lights, LED backup lights, LED turn lights, replaced the front bumper, glued the door gasket in place, replaced the seal on my bed box, glued my O in place (thanks Calfdemon) cleaned the PO's stickers off the back glass, replaced the brake indicator light, stripped and repainted/refurbished the license plate light, ran wires for brake/cargo light. Crazy how the time on the weekend goes!
Cheers,
Duane

Re: What did you do to YOUR bump today?
Had the tires balanced the other day and they set the tire pressure at 80 psi, it was a little rough on our country roads, so I let a bunch of air out and brought them all down to 48 psi. Much smoother now.

Re: What did you do to YOUR bump today?
Saturday I took Frankie, the bump trailer, to the landfill with a load of brush and tree limbs. Pulled him behind my '99 Grand Voyager. Trailer tongue sat a little too low for my liking, but if I flipped the ball mount over to the rise position, the bar on the ball mount hit the bumper.
Ordered a long length ball mount from AutoZone. It's made by Hidden Hitch. That'll fix that problem.
When I got home, I installed the weather proof registration holder on the front of the trailer. I can pull Frankie with either my GV or with Frodo, the '69 F250. Problem is that I need to have the registration certificate whenever I tow him. It's not legal to photocopy it, hence the need for the holder. I just don't want any sticky fingered bozo running off with it, so I've come up with a way to make a lock for it. Probably do that next weekend.
Sunday I put Frodo to bed for the winter. The rear brakes are getting worse, and I don't drive him during the winter anyway. I discovered a couple of small holes in the cover. Looks like I'll be getting a new one.

Re: What did you do to YOUR bump today?
For some reason my air deflectors, the area behind my grill on my 70 F350 had yellow paint showing through. It looked kind of dumb. I have been wanting to paint this for quite sometime. It was beautiful today, the wife was away, I had some time so I did it and it looks good. See the pics:
The PO also used white wire to rewire the headlights after some critter chewed the wires, so I either covered them with black elect tape or painted them so they don't show.

Fabbed up the driver-side head tube and primed the Flowmaster 40s.... I will have a useable (but not complete with tail pipes) by the end of the weekend and done on Veterans Day.
