16.5 wheels

Post by habu »

My wonderful wife bought me a set of 16.5 x 12.5 aluminum wheels, sorta like Alcoa, or the American racing wheels.
a googled example
Image I'll put up an image of the actual wheels shortly.

Here are the wheels that she bought.

I've got a '69 F250 CS. It's not lifted and I'm pretty sure I don't want to lift it. It's more of a work-horse, drive around, all purpose truck and something I can go camping in and if I happen to sacrifice some rubber to the tire gods so be it. It won't be a 4x4 mudding or anything similar truck.

so while they are roughly the style I want, I think the 12.5 will mean I'll have to run swamper style tires, which I don't want to do. I think the size of the tire I want is roughly a 265 or 275... Does this mean the 12.5 wheel is WAAAAY too wide to run a tire like that ? I've looked at Summit and Jegs and the only tires left they have with a 16.5 wheel are swampers.

Anyone have a better idea of what I'm up against trying to use these wheels. If I have to sell and get a set of 16's then it is what it is, but if I can use them

I had slotted aluminum 16.5 x 10's on my '67. They 'fit' under the fenders fine, although they might've rubbed on the suspension bits in a hard turn, but OMG the replacement rubber was so expensive that I sold the wheels, and went back to stock steel 16" rims.
too many Fords, no where near 'nuff time.

or, money.

Thanks. I had a feeling that unless I lifted the truck, they'd probably be too wide and if 10's rubbed, then you know the 12.5s will....
ugh

I would kill to find a decent set of slotted 8x6.5s for an amount that wouldn't break the bank
