I am doing new seals/bearings and races. The new seals for the front inside are a lot different than what's in there already. The current seals are what you would expect to find, the new ones have a "flange" on them. I'm not sure they will work, I bought these from Oreillys, since they are closest to me.
Take a look at the pics and tell me what you think. The pics show the new front on the left, and the new rear on the right. The new rears look fine to me, just like they are supposed to look.

Re: wheel seals 68 F100
Looks like there's a huge difference in the inside diameters of those two pieces.

Re: wheel seals 68 F100
The one on the left, with the larger diameter is for the front, the one on the right, smaller one, is for the rear.
I haven't removed the rear drum to get a look at the seal for that, as far as I know they could've given me the wrong seal for front and back!
I believe the front seal should be of the same style as the rear.
Will the "flange" of the different style front seal have a bearing on the operation of the front wheel?
Get it? Bearing? sorry, bad joke.

The back looks correct. Youll have to pull the axles to put those in. The fronts look to big. Maybe they r for a f500 or larger.

Re: wheel seals 68 F100
Thanks for taking the time to reply you guys.
The diameter of the front is ok, but I was wondering about the "flange" or lip that is on it. The seal that is on the truck now is just like the rear, it fits flush. The new seal I bought will have that flange , but I think it will be ok. I will let you know if it doesn't work out.
Thanks again.
Ron

The flange just mekes sure the seal only goes in so far. It may be that the depth of it isnt as deep as the original. So they use the flange to properly locate the sealing ring

Re: wheel seals 68 F100
My fears were unfounded, the seals with the flange worked out just fine. I used National wheel seals #4148. I also found National seal #473468 are the style that were in the truck when I bought it. I suppose both will work. Now it's time to do the rear wheel cylinders and repack the bearings.
Thanks for your help.
