f100 lift

Post by 71-100 »

So I currently have a 4" lift on my 71 4x4 however I am looking to go possibly to 6" or more as I would like to fit a larger tire (35x12.50 maybe?). My only fear is even if I lift it the larger tires would still rub my pitman arm on the drivers side as my 33s are doing now. However I have seen kits that include new pitman arms and I'm wondering if that would resolve this issue.

Basically what do you all recommend and have experience with?

Lastly would I have issues anywhere else?

Thank you!

Welcome to the site.

I don't think your tires are rubbing on the pitman arm, rather they're probably hitting the radius arm that hold the axle from behind. I've seen custom ones but that costs $$$, there should be a bolt on the bottom of the hub to stop from turning too far.
But after getting used to driving you can compensate by ear. :D

The kits with the drop pitman arm are for steering geometry.
The pitman arm goes from the steering gear to the drag link.

As far as anything else , over four inches of lift you should get a drop bracket for your diagonal tracking bar.
thats the bar that goes from the left frame to the right side of the axle to locate it in the center.
You may have to modify your brake lines to reach also.

Thank you for your input as well as the clarification on my terminology. I am new to the suspension aspects of it all and the names associated with each part. Would you have any recommendations of a 6inch lift for the truck?
