I hear you about the dust! If it EVER stops raining here, I want to get Frodo uncovered and cleaned up.

That's cool! Where did you find that? Looks like a perfect fit.Lthlwpn wrote:I installed a small volt gauge in my dash where the amp light was.
Also, it's not what I've done to my Bump yet, but I am sitting in my dining room, staring at it in the backyard and getting ready to pull out the factory A/C stuff (which will be for sale/trade if anyone wants it)

Here's a link to where I bought it. I did have to get the die grinder out, and open the amp hole on top a little under an 1/8th of an inch to make it fit perfect.

installed a remanned acdelco power steering pump. put a inline return magnetic filter. bled the system. added lubeguard ps additive. sounds worse than the busted pump. don't tell me i got a delco bad out of the box...
ditched the irridium tip plugs and put in some a/c delco plugs. i think i made a improvement. can't hardly tell...
checked trans fluid. all good there.
put a shorter belt on my alternator. huge improvement there.
ordered Tri Y headers. i'm hemorrhaging money.![Help :help:](./images/smilies/icon_help.gif)

You can see, in the lower right corner of the gauge cluster, that the glass is chipped. I measured the glass and it's 3/32" thick. Went to Menard's and got an 11x14" piece of clear polycarbonate that thick.
Came home and traced the outline of the glass onto the polycarbonate. Used a bandsaw to cut it out, and did some final trimming with a bench grinder. Fits perfectly. Now to get the tach converted to electric, and do something about the trim around the vacuum gauge.

I dropped my right side exhaust manifold and broke it. Time to head to the salvage yard.

Re: What did you do to YOUR bump today?
I've swapped guts twice from 4x4 to 2wd tail shafts and even that is more fun than it should be.eggman918 wrote:Not just today but for the last two weeks and the next two weeks..........so I guess it's " what did I do to my Bump this month!"
When I did the Cummins 4BT install I went with the M5ODR2 and it was a nice match to the 4BT's power band, but in our move from Bakersfield,CA. to northern AZ. it made 4 trips towlin trailers one was quite heavy at 8,000lbs two were 5,000lbs and the last was only 4,000lbs the 4BT preformed like a trooper but by the time we got it all here the M5r2 was making a lot of noise it was a good sport though as it held together for another 15,000 miles untill we foune the right house to buy and moved all those trailer loads one more time over the I-17 grades.Once we got settled in it finely let loose for good but limped home only to finely quit in the yard within 50' of the shop.So now I'm putting in it's place a 2x4 ZF s-542 I'm in the middle of overhauling it and it is a real PITA to do,I've been doing this sort of thing for over 35 years and never dealt with a piece of equipment that is this complicated in it's overhaul process, fortunately the ZF manual is quite comprehensive including good pictures of the many special tools needed to do the job as I will need to make at least 3 and maybe as many as 5 of them to finish the job.To make things even more challenging Ford has very little support for the ZF 542 even many of the "soft parts" are now listed as obsolete, and the "core" zf I got had been previously "rebuilt" by someone with more enthusiasm than knowledge and whose go to tool seems to have been the 3# hammer luckily I found 4x4 ZF in a local bone yard in good shape internally for the hard parts I will need. This has been quite an experience and in hindsight the $1,200 that they wanted for a rebuilt unit would have been a real deal......never again will I do this on a ZF but with a little luck this one will out last me and the next time will be someone else's problem.
My bump has been hauling horse poop and dirt. They call it mushroom soil around here and it's amazing for getting the garden going. Thankfully I haven't installed taller sides on my bed so I only get 2 yards at a time. The bed doesn't lift quite high enough for the material to self dump with the diamond plate bed which is a bummer. Otherwise it just keeps running and it passed 68k last week.

Started the upholstery phase of my project with the ratty driver's seat since the passenger's is intact. I'll need it for reference. I picked up the pair for $100... new frames are like $450 or something crazy like that.

Burlap has disintegrated and the foam is turning into dust.
![Image](http://i62.tinypic.com/21nm6b5.jpg)
Yuck. One of the seat track bolts was rusted in place. Welded a nut to it twice and it broke twice. 'had to drill and tap which took a while.
![Image](http://i59.tinypic.com/1z38ec4.jpg)
The anchor wire's paper wrapping is also disintegrating from age. I'll need to come up with a work around.
![Image](http://i59.tinypic.com/2ele902.jpg)
Stripped. Laid on some Purple Power and hosed off the foam and burlap crumblies.
![Image](http://i58.tinypic.com/rlg6qp.jpg)
Found a crack on the seat back near the hinge.. cut a shallow "V" and welded it up. Also found a broken spring so that had to be taken care of too....
![Image](http://i62.tinypic.com/rbk0t2.jpg)
Spent the rest of the day wire-wheeling, conversion coating, and refinishing the back rest and seat base. Yeah, I know most of it won't be seen but I'll know if I leave it scummy... it's the OCD in me and I can't help it.

Re: What did you do to YOUR bump today?
Cleaned up some of the rats nest wiring and was able to get all my lights working. Started putting new tie rods on, but I ordered the wrong "inner", so now it will be on hold until I can find the proper piece.
