wondering if a manual rack can be fit to work with stock or lowered I-beam suspension?
want to eliminate the horrible stock gear box, without going to an IFS set-up.

I've seen pics online. But I've wondered myself how hard it would be.

It can be done. However, the induced bumpsteer would be horrendous to the point of being extremely unsafe if not deadly.
Read up on bumpsteer and it'll be clear as day why the geometry is all wrong if applied with i-beams.

A center mount tie rod rack would be the best for the scenario, but still a long way off for controlling bump steer.
What I haven't figured out is why the stock steering linkage is designed the way it is. The passenger beam and drag link being good lengths, but the driver side tie rods being so short compared to the beam has to effect bump steer horribly.

Re: Manual Rack and Pinion and I beam set up?
thanks for the replies.
I understand the horror of bad bump steer. Used to own and play with some Fox-body Mustangs.
I'm not sure i want to tear into a complete IFS install on the truck. Does anyone have a good experience with a blueprinted manual gearbox.
want some reduced steering effort without the 10 degrees of slop both sides of center, that I'm dealing with right now.
