Seals for my leaky steering box

Post by donutcat »

1969 F100 2wd with a steering box that decided over the weekend that it no longer appreciated being a container for the ATF. As I've gone through over a quart of ATF and a bottle of leak sealer since then, I'll be going tomorrow for an input seal kit. My real problem is finding the seal for the cover since it's been slowly leaking for a long time now. I've seen seals for the boxes with 3 or 4 bolts in the top, but none for the 2 bolt kind that look like this Image
Worst case scenario, RTV is used in place of a seal, but I'd rather use a seal that will most likely work better and last longer

Consider yourself lucky because you have the Ford gearbox instead of the Bendix box which is leak prone and problematic to say the least. Autozone and Napa both list seal kits for the Ford box. Don't ever use "RTV" in place of a seal.  It won't work.

That is the Ford box, Not the Bendix.
