I'm seeking some experienced guidance on the best way to proceed concerning the steering column of a 1968 F100. She's got a 302 thats running good now and the last hitch was/is the steering. Somewhere in its past someone put in a floor shifter that doesn't work worth a damn. Not mention they altered the C4 to accommodate said crappy shifter. I just delivered the linkage I got from Flashback F100 in North Carolina to fix this and return it to a column shift. Again, I'm new to all this and from my research, looks like I have a 1971/72 column. Is someone willing to verify this via the images? If the wheels are interchangeable (68/71), I might have a heart attack from joy, but looking at the schematics I can find, I don't think thats not going to be the case. So, my best option is now how to best fix this column to get the truck drivable and keep looking for the correct one. the gear shift lever is missing, the turn signal lever as well. who knows inside. It just dawned on me the linkage I got was for a 1968. Will that work if this is a 1971/72 column? This is the kind of mistake that makes me reach for the ibuprofen. I'm an enthusiast, not a mechanic but I'm learning, slowly. Anyone got a 1968 column?

My goal is to eventually restore this truck to the day in left the factory (except for engine). This is my first old truck bought last October. I was so excited! a "few," thousand dollars later, I'm still excited but take more Ibuprofen than I used to now trying to fix/restore some of the messes previous folks made. Between my mechanic & myself, we've almost got it on the road. PS this truck has the world's crappiest paint job, wish they'd just left it alone. Still, it has no cancer, the bed is strong.
