Need help with F250 brake hardware

Post by Mockingbird »

I have just begun the basic work on my 1968 F250, and I'm pretty much a novice with old vehicles. When I removed the rear brake drums, the brake mechanism I saw is not what I have seen on the rear brake repair threads. What I expected and what is labeled in the '68 service manual as "F250 Rear Brake" is this:

The manual labels an F100 rear brake as:

What I have is this, found in the manual section "Parking Brake":

Note the different upper springs, and I also found that the self-adjusting mechanism wire on mine is about 1" longer than anything I could find. I cannot find hardware that matches up; the parts stores (including the famous online stores) have been of no help. Looking up 1968 F250 brakes gives you the first setup shown above, F100 gives the second.

If anyone can tell me what I have and how to get these parts, I would be very grateful.

Alan

Are you sure the rear end is the one that originally came with the truck? That could make a difference.

Thanks - It's a Dana 60, matching the code on the rating plate. That's all I know.
