You are doing great work my friend. I am digging your color combos like the door panels. That's classic.

Re: 1969 highboy
Thanks guys things have been slow going on the truck... Been saving up truck funds for a welder. I did figure out my starting issues and my radio issues tho. I know I'm doing this out of order but figured I'd paint the interior and get it all back together before I fix the floors. Today worked on sanding inside and tracing wires everywhere. Hoping tomorrow to have the dash and upper interior done. These pics are before sanding.

Re: 1969 highboy
I'm not sure there is ever a proper order to doing these things...maybe if you would have started with your floors first, it might have been tougher to see the light at the end of the tunnel. With your paint done, I'd bet you're motivated to get those floors replaced, interior back together and back on the road!
I took a welding course at the local tech college (SAIT), and it was so fun. The instructor said the best way to buy a welder is to watch Kijiji or CraigsList for guys that don't know how to use 'em or end up with a birds nest of wire in the welder, that can be easily fixed by someone who knows what he's doin'!

Re: 1969 highboy
I've been craigslisting like crazy looking everyday for a welder. I let a nice brand new miller 211 half off slip through my fingers cause I was to slow. I've been looking at the new Lincoln 210 mp unit; it can do everything! Think I might invest in one soon.
Primed the interior and started painting but ran out of paint after all the stores were closed Looks like tomorrow I'll grab more paint and start putting it back together. I'll post pictures tomorrow when it's done, cause I want it to looks good for you guys. Also cause it builds suspense

Re: 1969 highboy
Spent all day working on the truck and accomplished quite a bit.
It's kind of hard to tell but I painted the spokes of the steering wheel and the shifters the same tan as the dash. Also painted the back of the cab above the gas tank up and over the doors connecting to the dash in the front. After the paint was fairly set up I decided to put the headliner in. I don't know if you guys have tried this by yourself but it is infuriating. The headliner was fairly fresh paint and trying not to scuff the fresh cab paint and hold the headliner and trim at the same time. Of course I kept dropping the screws and screwdriver. Finally got it though. Also filled the cracks in the steering wheel and got it sanded down and painted.

Re: 1969 highboy
Almost forgot; I also worked on the gauge panel.
I wanted to paint the flat black area with the tan.
I ended up painting the rest of it Massey ferguson gray. I'm kind of bummed out the colors aren't more different, should have gone a darker gray. It's almost looks like one solid color. I'll try it out though... I'm not to excited to tape it all off again

Re: 1969 highboy
I put the bezel back in the dash to see what it looked like. I got to say it doesn't look as good as I had imagined. What do you guys think?

I think the bezel looks good. I also think you need to go pick up a 110 welder and gas conversion. A 210 is a monster and overkill for sheet metal. .030" wire and 1/8 metal is welded on the 2nd heat position. On 6 with full wire speed it'll push wire through a 1/2" plate. I haven't found a need for 7. Spool gun .035 aluminum is done on 3 and 50% speed. A 110 Lincoln with gas and .023" wire will do whatever you need, from stress cracks in sheet metal to 1/4" steel plate.
I do think the shifter should be black too.

Re: 1969 highboy boxwood green
Ranchero, would the Lincoln 210 be able to do sheet metal with a 110 power source? I like how this mig machine can plug into 110 or 220 and stick, tig, and aluminum can be added onto it easily. I really don't want two different machines and figured this machine would have me set for life for any project I need. Sheet metal to half inch. I'm also used to using a big Lincoln ranger 8 that eats anything. I don't want to stress a small machine or preheat or be limited to duty-time. I am open to advice though. This morning on Craigslist I missed a new one almost half price by a few hours

I don't know about the new 210's but I don't think it'll perform nearly as well on 110 vs. 220. My small welder typically stays under the bench until I need it for special projects. It'll run off a 5k generator too which is nice. I did have stainless wire in it for the longest time.

Re: 1969 highboy boxwood green
I felt like today was pretty productive, got a lot done around the house and worked on my truck. Figured out my wiring issue after tearing all my wires apart. It turns out that my battery was shot. A fresh battery fixed all of my problems. It's such a relief knowing it will start when I turn the key now! I did a little bit of painting.
Worked on installing my radio, I wanted to wait until I figured out my dying battery issue. It was a pain installing the radio in the factory face plate. Also got some new door speakers in the mail today and threw them in. I had to use the speaker covers I already had to cover up screw holes in the door panels. Music sounds amazing now. This truck hasn't had tunes for as long as I've had it.

I'm interested in what you used to restore your steering wheel. Can you take us through that process?
