Re: 76 F250 Camper Special Tow Rig
So I’ve made quite a bit of progress lately. I bought the 351 and 4R70w. I tore down the 351 and took it to the machine shop, Midwest engine specialist in Cape Missouri. They did a FANTASTIC job cleaning everything. The prep work was second to none. I had it bored .030”, and bought new pistons that will be 10:1 compression. I’ve began checking all the tolerances and hope to build the bottom end this weekend. I also have a set of RHS 180cc aluminum heads, all new Comp valvetrain, pro magnum roller rockers, and edelbrock air gap performer RPM intake. My buddy at comp says it should make 400+ horsepower. That should be pretty healthy for what I’m planning to use the truck for. My goal is to have it running in the next 2 months. I also got all the components to lose the truck and got them installed minus the tie rod relocators which has been a PITA since I first received them. It’s coming along slowly but surely.

The donor 351 windsor from a 1996 F-150
My 300k mike hot rod Honda taking the Windsor to the machine shop.
I beams installed but no engine or trans in the truck yet.
Ready to assemble the cleaned up 351.
New intake setup. The 2” spacer is because of the fuluel injection setup. Hope the hood clears.

Why did you go with the FAST injection? What sold you on it?

I have a couple buddies that work at Comp cams in Memphis and my brother worked there for 9 years. I used the fast xfi system on a turbo mustang and it works flawlessly. So when I got this project and I hate carbuerators it was an easy choice. It's gotten a bad rap due to improper installation in some projects but with me, same as before. Followed instructions, not a single issue.

Fast is one of the setups I considered as well. Started out in the direction of Fox Body type setup, but when I went with a 96 model Windsor as well, intakes got very expensive. So I ended up with the Fitech setup. It's been ok so far. No major issues other than EMI noise from the distributor messing with the ECU that is right on front of the throttle body next to the dizzy. Ended up the new MSD cap was bad. Bought a NAPA premium cap and no issues. I dropped Fast setup for 2 reasons. Cost and from what I read on the internet that tech support was lacking. But turns out tech support with FITECH is not the greatest either. I get most of my help from a Facebook FITECH page. By the way getting a 96 windsor was a good score. I used all of the truck accessories on front of the motor and 96 model year is the only year that did not have a smog pump. Just an idler pulley.Joshgt87 wrote:I have a couple buddies that work at Comp cams in Memphis and my brother worked there for 9 years. Hey man awesome! Do you have any pictures or a build section where I could see your truck? I’m with you on the internet review of tech support. The amazon reviews murder comp, but my ace in the hole is I grew up with 2 guys that work there for 10+ years. I got some 302 motor mount perches, will the stock 96 mounts bolt right to it? What transmission are you running also? I may need some more advice

You should ditch google's pic app. It's a joke to need to click on each link to see an image. imgbb.com works well for me and photobucket might be coming back into the fold. You want and need 3rd party hosing for forums.

Below is a link to my build thread. I am running the CV conversion and picked up some mounts from a guy on the F100 facebook page that he makes. All you should need is the 302 perches. Same exact mounts. Trans is a TKO 500.Joshgt87 wrote:Hey man awesome! Do you have any pictures or a build section where I could see your truck? I’m with you on the internet review of tech support. This is going to be quite interesting with what you got going. That 2.84 first gear of the 4r70w will be insane with that much power in front of it.
Just another Ford fool named Dan.

A fairly reliable truck that I can drive often, and pull a camper with. Something the family and I can really enjoy. I want to get the ac up and going as well. I love looks so far!Ranchero50 wrote:Looks much better with pics. What's the end goal?
