I wasn't sure if it had any relationship to normal operation, other than downshifting when the throttle was depressed all the way. Now I know. Thanks for the info.

i would get everything else fixed first and then worry about the whining later. the only sound i can think of right now is the powersteering pump whine. i cant think of a transmission whine or how it sounds. so fix it and drive it to a trans shop and have them listen to it.
