Keep up the good work! I quit smoking in 1991. It is very hard but certainly can be done. In the end the results are VERY worth it. What I did to help my mind was,I committed to take the cost of the cigs ( at the time $2 a pack ) Rounded it off to $15 a week and made sure I put it in an envelope and saved it to pay for my racing hobby I had at the time. It was a great way to feel I was giving myself a treat.

I recently layed a uncle to rest who was only 3 years older than me. He smoked the better part of his life, and spent his last 5yrs on full time oxygen wasting away. Have a aunt who is now on oxygen, also smoked most of her life. I am a X smoker and I am starting to have light respiratory problems, not anything bad yet, hopefully never. Good job man! I have been a smoker on and off since I was 18. I think it really comes down to you being ready and wanting to quit. I have not had one in almost 2 weeks now myself. It's a constant battle for me. Even if I have not smoked in over a year every now and again I will see someone smoking or smell one that's just been lit and get the urge that I have to push down. Good luck to all of us trying to quit our bad habits this year!!

Congrats, never smoked, seldom drank.

I like the bit about writing something down instead of substituting the cigs with a coke or something. Less stress too.

I tried Zyban twice when I was still in the Marines. It worked for 3 months both times for me but it would help you get started and on the right path.

This may sound ignorant, but I'm curious what health benefits the ex smokers have noticed after they quit in the weeks or months after. I remember once being sick for a week and not smoking. After a trip to Burger King I had the best tasting burger that I can remember.

I have been addicted for 17 years. I have tried to cut down in the past nothing worked as good as getting a new job that absolutely doesn't allow smoking on their property. Once that started, the habit was cut in half.

To get past the urges, I keep a supply of Tootsie Rolls in my pocket... Works surprisingly well.

The improved sense of taste is a big difference lol Also When I wake up in the morning my chest doesn't hurt on the first few deep breaths I take.
