the skid plate is kind of part of the strap ysstem that holds the tank up there. here is a basic overview of what it looks like. http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... dplate.jpg
and then here is the tank diagrams. http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... -aux02.jpg

Merged these 2 posts as thefordguy is still working on this same issue, please keep to the one post as it keeps all the info in one place for all readers.

Re: How do you fix the fuel inlet ?
Well, I finally got around to fixing the gas tank. I realized that the camper above the main tank has a wood platform. So, I carefully drilled a few holes and sure enough its wood on top of the gas tank/propane tank. Its very thick - longer than my drill bit so probably between 4-inches to 6-inches. My plan is to cut out a 12"x12" square in the floor so I can make the repair to the leaky snorkel. Then, I'll just make a hatch with hinges for any future repairs to the area.

Re: How do you fix the fuel inlet ?
Well, I cut the 12x12 square in the floor of the camper. I got a bit scared when I saw that there was insulation sandwhiched between an upper and lower layer of plywood. I'm assuming the insulation is asbestos. So, I was as careful as I could be not to breath the stuff. My plan is to cut the fuel pipe at that location, and then pull out the pipe from there to the snorkel inlet, then rebuilt the piping. Any suggestions on where I could get the piping and fittings? Is it special stuff or would a hardware store carry it?

well, the leak seems to be where the plastic pipe 90 degrees toward the gas tank. it looks like the 90 degree fitting is glued together, I don't believer there is any rubber hose or clamps at that location.

I have no clue how they were set up on a camper. I thought it was a regular camper special.

Re: How do you fix the fuel inlet ?
Well, I went to a truck place yesterday, and several auto parts places and hardware stores. No one can locate a replacement. After looking closer at the piping (which I will attach to my posting tomorrow) its just ABS piping, 1-1/2" diameter, with a few 90 degree fittings. Probably, the reason it leaked is because this piping is not made for fuel. However, if the new piping lasts for 10 years I'll be quite happy. It will be easy enough to do it again later if needed. I imagine a stock fuel tank pipe setup wouldn't work due to the conflict with the welded in place propane tank.
