The other engine is a 460...and actually a nice example of one, with a D0VE-A block and D0VE-C heads, but it also needs rebuilt. So now I guess I need to do some research and decide which one to rebuild first.

The 460 is partially disassembled, so I should check it out and see if I have everything. It's just a bare long-block, so I know I'd have to round up a power steering pump and brackets, alternator brackets and exhaust manifolds (or headers).

I don't know....I'm going to be giving this some thought over the next week or so, do some research into what each would cost to get rebuilt and installed, and then make a decision.

Nah, I just need to start selling some of my parts inventory and raise the money to get one of these engine rebuilt...both need it anyway, so... :o

The only good thing that's come about now, due to the current engine situation, is that my wife and I have agreed that it's not feasible for me to give up the shop just yet, before I have any running engines. So I'll at least get to keep it through this next winter. That takes a little bit of the strain off me.

I spent some time online and on the phone pricing rebuild kits for both, and was surprised to find that Federal-Mogul rebuild kits for both are virtually identical in price. So, since the 460 is the engine that was always destined for the choptop, I'm leaning towards just getting that one rebuilt first...pending a teardown of each to see what each would need in terms of parts and machine work.

I'm sure it changes things from SB to BB, but full machine work/rebuild/head work and rebuild/built and painted was 1600. That's the builder ordering everything. It was bored/honed/turned the crank/new cam/lifters/push rods/pistons/ i think he used the old rods not sure?/bearings and all that crap/new valvetrain parts springs/valves/ all that stuff. You know the whole deal. But it was 1600 top to bottom reworked and built.

So Keith, let me get this straight...

No running engine = keep the shop

sounds to me like you just need to never get it done! :D

Good to hear you will have the Winter to do it right and not rush things too much.

$2000 is what I budget to do a full rebuild.
$750 machine work
$500 rebuild kit
$250 little parts that I brake or can't find
$500 New parts that I should "Just replace since I am doing all now anyway"

Keith,

I have lots of 460 parts. In fact I just listed some stuff on ebay. I also have a 460 PS pump w/ brackets. I will pull that off of ebay and send it to you for postage. Let me know. It is in good shape and the only reason I took it off was for the serpentine engine swap. the parts are listed under dablack2000 on ebay.

Keith your the reason i love these trucks... you keep on trucking and never stop no matter what comes in the way  Your really coming around on the chop top, looking good , I want to make one of the two trucks i get the rat rod look without the chop though... going to primer it dark with blue rims, just the rough good old boy look and have everything under the hood :maybe:

No, I haven't had a chance to get to the shop lately, mainly due to getting some stuff whittled off my 'Honey-Do' list. (Figured that by doing so I might have a better chance at persuading her that the 460 engine rebuild should get put onto the credit cards to get it done sooner.) :P Plus I felt a little guilty about leaving her with three curtain-climbers to deal with all day and her being 9-1/2 months pregnant. ;)

Is it just me or does Keith, have more trucks than kids. Is that the way it works? I have two girls and three trucks (two short bed single cab and one shortbed CC).

Keith,

Let me know that you got the intake and pump.

Austin:

Got the intake and PS pump/brackets...THANK YOU! It's very much appreciated.  Those should work very nicely.

Due to the current situation, I'm not sure when I'll be getting back to the shop, but when I do I'll probably be getting the tailgate and hood finished up. I need to weld up the emblem holes on the hood and then get both pieces painted.

I also need to get to work practicing cutting glass, so I can get the windshield trimmed down and installed.
