Re: 72 F100 project, longbed to short conv. (+hydroboost)
So if you set up disc brakes in all four corners, you don't need a proportioning valve? I guess that makes sense seeing as how I don't have a p-valve on my truck with drum brakes all around.

Re: 72 F100 project, longbed to short conv. (+hydroboost)
Got a few more pieces of the puzzle, borgeson joint and a pair of bubble flare adapters. I was hoping I could use the OEM crown vic lines but they are metric bubble flare and not the right length. Part numbers included for those thinking about this swap...
Part number Edelmann 271300, adapts 3/16 SAE flare to male 3/16 10mm bubble flare.
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00050-20090528-1656.jpg)
With the adapters now you can use standard brake lines throughout
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/DSCN3429.jpg)
And Borgeson joint 013455, 3/4" 36 spline for the column and 3/4 V for the crown's rack
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00051-20090529-1920.jpg)
I had to touch the V with the grinder as it wouldnt fit!
I guess the 94+ joint is not an exact standard but it did fit...
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/DSCN3426.jpg)
Instead of trying to lengthen the column end to reach the joint I moved the column mount up a few inches allowing it to slide a little further into the engine bay. You can also see some the brake lines I've started bending, couldnt find the exact lengths I needed and bought some that were a little too long. I ended up moving the distribution block up a few inches too
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/DSCN3428.jpg)
You can see i dented the tube trying to get the bracket off then I got a little happy with the striping disk
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/DSCN3430.jpg)
so now the wheel is a few inches closer to the dash. I'd like to get a tilt column later but this should do for now.
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/DSCN3431.jpg)
Now I can start thinking of engine mounts.

Re: 72 F100 project, longbed to short conv, (CV swap cont'd)
Time for another update...
Decided I'd clean up the engine block up a little before putting the engine back in and found one the freeze plugs a little wet, I was tempted to leave it alone but instead went and bought one freeze plug. After all it didnt look that bad. I was wrong, the freeze plug was actually rusting from the inside out! But dang!!! look at all the rusty sludge!!!
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00056-20090606-1519.jpg)
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00058-20090606-1534.jpg)
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00059-20090606-1535.jpg)
If this one is bad then the others are probably not far behind. So back to the auto-part to buy and replace the other plugs. With all of them out I was able to clean it pretty good, I scraped, scooped and flushed it till the water was coming our clear.
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00002-20090608-1626.jpg)
Now with that out of the way I could focus on the motor mounts, thought I'd try to make some similar to the autofab style with poly leaf spring bushings. I didnt take any pics while mocking it up with cardboard but its a pretty easy design. I'm also thinking I could easily adapt them to other engine blocks, I'd like to go to a 460 eventually.
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/DSCN3459.jpg)
I wanted to weld them on both sides onto the frame rails but the steering linkage on the drivers side is pretty much in the way. I went ahead and used the crown vic's crossmembers hole.

slather some por15 over them, they look nice don't they!

Even with a front sump pan there is about an inch of clearance.
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/DSCN3480.jpg)
I did make one mistake, I didnt realize I needed to put the exhaust/crossover pipe back in first before putting the motor back in!

Dude...Good Work!
I was wondering how the motor mounts would work with the crown vic setup...I found some from summit, but I never thought about the steering linkage being in the way. I will have to remember this thread when I take on the swap. Keep the updates coming!

Another little update, man I wish I had more time to work on this but I got the power steering bracket setup for a Saginaw pump...
Literally found this one laying on ground on the junkyard and was able find some stock FE brackets locally from a guy who had a box full of them
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00069-20090717-1737.jpg)
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00070-20090718-1032.jpg)
Cut out what I needed and made sure it angled the pump just right, this pump uses a remote reservoir..
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00077-20090722-1816.jpg)
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00078-20090722-1911.jpg)
Welded up and sanded smooth...

I just need to find a better pulley, the one I have has too much offset.

Re: 72 F100 project, longbed to short conv, (CV swap cont'd)
JG, have you thought about the wheels and tires you are going to run?
I have a left over set of mustang wheels and tires that have the 5 x 4.5 lug pattern and I have always thought about running them on my truck when I do the crown victoria swap, but I don't know if the tires will end up being too short. They are 245/45/17's which end up being just under 26" tall....what do you think? Does the suspension swap give the truck enough drop that a 26" tall tire would look fine?

Dont know yet, I still want to cut a coil or two then most likely go with 20's. I've got some 245/35/19s I'm going to mount to figure out backspacing and such.marvin2 wrote:JG, have you thought about the wheels and tires you are going to run?

wow i would like to do this but man alot of work..... plus alot of welding their and fab, do you have to go with that power brake booster or is that a personal choice...

Would you mind posting a couple of pics once you mount the 19's?...even if they are temporary. The 245/35/19's are the same height as the 245/45/17's I want to run. I want to get an idea as to whether I can keep the tires I have now, or whether I need to sell them for something taller. Thanks man!JG F100 wrote:Dont know yet, I still want to cut a coil or two then most likely go with 20's. I've got some 245/35/19s I'm going to mount to figure out backspacing and such.

That was a personal choice, you could stay with manual brakes or go with a vacuum booster. I even wonder if you could use the CV rack without PS and use it as a manual rack71f100anddodgemagnum wrote:wow i would like to do this but man alot of work..... plus alot of welding their and fab, do you have to go with that power brake booster or is that a personal choice...

Another update, spent some time wire wheeling the inner fenders and finally got around to putting things back together...
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00085-20090728-1901.jpg)
Had to fix a few rust holes here and there...
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/IMG00099-20090827-1818.jpg)
![Image](http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh381/JG1207/F100/DSCN3910.jpg)
I managed to get the fenders and drive it up and down my driveway too!
Power steering and power brakes are nice!
Ignore the wheels I just wanted to see how they fit. They are 19x9 w/245/35s from my other car, I'm thinking of going a little lower by
cutting a coil and a half. That along with a 20" rim should reduce the fender gap. It might also settle a little bit more as I had just taken it
off the jack stands plus its still missing the hood, bumper, etc...

I managed to get the fenders and drive it up and down my driveway too!
![Woohoo! :woohoo:](./images/smilies/icon_woohoo.gif)
