67 f100. emergency brake

Post by mark1 »

this is my first restoration on a old ford truck. the emergency brake has a cable from the emergency brake pedal to an arm about half way down the chassis. from the rear both cables are comming from the back brakes to an oval shaped block but nothing connects the two. can anyone give me any info on the brake. with it being a standard tranny i would like for the emergency brake to work. also i am not sure the pedal return spring is hooked up correctly. thanks in advance for your help

Here are a couple pictures I took when redoing the chassis on my '67:

This picture shows the standard hookup, on a truck without the 25-gallon in-frame auxiliary fuel tank. (The tank is shown in the picture, but only to illustrate how it won't work.) The front cable isn't shown here, but it connects on that lever (yellow arrow), and the return spring also hooks onto the end of that lever and extends back to the crossmember:

...and this picture shows the proper setup for a truck WITH the in-frame fuel tank. You can see there's a small L-bracket on the end of the cable...that's for the return spring, which extends back to the crossmember:

mark1,

Welcome to the foums! Go by the Welcome Mat and introduce yourself (we like pictures).

As you see, this is a great place! Keith has built a wonderful paradise for 67-72 Ford truck lovers. It is amazing.
