I looked for one probably a year before I finally just swapped to automatic. I found one that had all of the wiring and switches and they guy wanted $500 for it and I had to pass. I have personally seen one in a running truck. It was a 71 F100 390 with 3.25 gear. He got 18mpg on the road with that thing
I think they are fairly rare. You don't see them in the yards around here at all.
Might depend on the area also. I don't know

if the shift solenoid is bad. they are very expensive to get a new one or have it rebuilt.

The only one I have ever seen in one of these pickups is in my 2 mile down the road neighbors '67 Mercury M100. 300 six, three on the tree and the overdrive handle is like a hood release on the left hand side just below the headlight switch. That is a real rare truck and I try to buy it each time I see him. Had him over the other night to do some custom baling for me, I asked again and still "no way" is the answer. I wished at least he would put it inside. The truck is straight and clean. Custom cab, straight everything.

thats is the one i got with the handle next to the brake release the unit worked fine if cable was in when you got in third about 60 mph and let off the throttle it would slide right in and once you down shifted it went back out with the cable pulled it was not engaged at all .also there is a elect motor mounted on the side of the overdrive that was not hooked up to harness. dont know what that did because the unit worked. funny one of the reasons the guy was selling the truck he said" seems like wrong gear or some thing wont pull my car trailer " 429 w 3 speed on tree 325 gear i pulled cable out and it was like anew rear gear truck ran nice . but i did not trust 3 speed and overdrive that was 45 years old behind a 429
thanks guys :D
